Well, I think I've decided to go for it. Sent an e-mail to the owner asking when he'd be willing to allow a test-drive, and in return I'll take him where he wants to eat and buy him lunch.

From everything I've been able to gather, if you run R-Comps in B-Stock you get enough rear lift to pick up the inside tire. A big FSB keeps the rear wheels on the ground, letting the LSD do its job, and getting rid of a lot of the S2K's want to send you into the hedge backwards. The flipside is you need to run a square tire setup.
Yeah, I was planning on B-Stock more so because I love running on R-Comps, and because I don't want this car to turn into the mod sinkhole my B16 EF Civic turned into.![]()
The prior owner detailed it before putting it up for sale, but the paint is probably the worst part of the car. It isn't fantastic.![]()

Current rules for stock class allow a catback exhaust, changing the front or rear sway bar (but not both,) and new dampers (but not springs as Compy222 pointed out.) Stock is the lowest class you can run R-comp tires in too.
There are street tire classes that allow much more in terms of suspension modification that have lower PAX values than the Stock classes, but the tires keep them in check.

If anyone's in the market, here's a 2002 (along with 2003, the best year) white/red (desirable combo) with 7600 miles.

Drove my coworker's S today. I don't think I really need to talk about my driving impressions with this crowd – you've heard it all before – but the problem is that he decided to get on the Internet and check out Kelley Blue Book. Now he's convinced his car's worth almost 20 grand, and is backing away from his original "15 or 16 thousand" comment and looking to get $17k.
Now, I can see how he feels. The car has under 15,000 miles on it, he's the original owner, it's garaged year-round, it's driven 99% of the time in top-down weather and it's 100% stock. I may be able to talk him down into the 16,xxx range.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Also, there's this. $14,900 for an '04. Top needs replacing and it has 77,500 miles on it.

This goddamn thread is making it much harder to resist buying a S2K. I am planning on getting one in April.
Jay's S2k makes me wanna self juice.

http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/3233777706.html doesn't seem like too bad of a deal by comparison...though 01's have plastic rear windows and somehow an even worse stereo.

Any Richmond TCLers trolling this thread who might be able to check out this car? At the price he's asking it might not last.

Silver on red. Drool. I might have to snatch this one up.

Well, I did indeed snatch it up. Drove up on the 6th to check it out, everything looked excellent except for a bit of normal wear and tear. Took it home with the top down and the biggest smile on my face.
Once I have her cleaned up a bit I'll take some photos. Sebring Silver on full red interior.

I may check out an Ap1 next week. Any advice on what to look for? I have been reading up on the common issues they have but maybe you owners can help me out. Any maintenance that should be done past 100k miles? Also what tale tale signs I should look for in a bad example? Any help would be appreciated.![]()

Honestly I cant think of things that a beat up S2k will exhibit, (outside of the AP1 valve issue). And one annoying thing that I run into is that the 2nd gear grinds, and the clutch is buzzy as hell. Those are rather common issues.

A guy I know recently picked up a blue CR with a Science of Speed S/C for $25k.
TWENTY ****ING FIVE GRAND. The CR itself is worth that much, and that's a $7000 kit. ****ING STEAL.
Car has like 13k miles on it.

^ gorgeous. i've always been a bit of a sucker for gold wheels on red cars.![]()

It depends what you want to do with it. If you plan on dd-ing it and beating the car up at the track, then just find a cheaper one.
If you want an S to really enjoy it and you will take care of it, the newer one is a no-brainer. It won't lose much value because it has such low mileage. You won't regret this car.
Edit: Just realized its an AP1. Personally I would just keep looking. I picked up my 2005 AP2 super clean with 40k miles on it for 16k.
If you like the red one go for it as its a pretty good price. Just make sure its clean. If you want to keep the car stock the extra torque of the AP2 makes a world of difference in driveability.
