Because it's kinda like the guys who get 12k HID's because they're purple and wanna be "unique". It's annoying, and pointless, and they're horrid, they kill your light output, and "smoking" everything and "murdering out" cars is (99.9% of the time) ugly and for people who have no style. If you really wanna get something that doesn't come stock as prev. stated, get Ocean tails (not stock on US models) or get some of the M3 styled LED tails (if you can make them work) or something else. With these cars it's clean>obnoxious/ricey/heylookatmei'mcool.

my personal preference if smoking isnt overdone, my tailights looked gay oem they were bright red on the side of color pink when brake lights would turn on i did one coat on them and they are perfect now and match the car well.

one coat isn't really dark at all, i wouldn't think that would be bad.

it's just when people have 5 coats and they are black as night

I took off my tinted tail because, as I use to love the look in high school, I think they look gaudy and make the whole car look "cheaper"

Most of the time when people smoke their turn signals. They install brighter lights as I did so nothing really changes but the color .

Another name for Altezza-style tail lights. Never understood the "euro" name.

But smoked tails are dangerous and they look cheap. The way toocooldg has done his, however, is subtle and definitely adds to the appearance overall

True I don't know how the Altezza-style lights became known as euro when it is a Japenese car.

Now that 30% tint on the jetta tails look nice, I may have to do that to mine.
