Spec wise they are almost the same with a few differences. The Kindle Fire only has 8GB and no SD cart slot, which isn't really that big of a deal to most book readers and casual app users.

The Nook Color might have the slight advantage in features but it does not have Amazon's cloud based backend like Amazon Cloud Music Player, their new Cloud based Browser, and Amazon's own AppStore.

I'm afraid most people will get the Fire because of the low intro price of $199 and I believe B&N made an "Apple" mistake by not changing the look of the NookTablet.

I think I would rather give my money to Amazon and invest in their store than B&N.

wife has the nook color. i rooted an had it running android 2.2 for a bit, but was very laggy an crashed...with the new specs it wont be hard to run. this will be a reg tablet within a month. full market. looks like i just found a xmas gift for the wife an me lol

the kindle fire is nice. but it doesnt have a mic. so once rooted wont be able to run apps that need voice commands or recording.

I think i'll be leaning towards the Fire due to
    -Price.
    -Amazon Prime.
-The amount of E-books I already have on a previous Kindle
-Amazon expects their tablet to be rooted.
-I think Amazon has a much better chance of long term survival than B&N.

All good reasons. I'm sure the Nook will get rooted with no problem. The fact that it has a micro SD slot almost guarantees that.

I like the fire, except that it's 8gb and no SD card.

I convert my DVR tv shows and ripped blue rays/DVDs to divx/xvid/mp4. So cloud storage doesn't do it for me since I can't upload too it.

Unless they have an app where I could stream my media server from home like I do on my iPad.

Now that we have the iPad I really don't care about the tablet functionality of my Nook Color. If I had a way to get my Nook Books onto a Kindle I'd probably make the switch to the $80 Kindle.

According to GizMag, the latest 1.4.1 update to the Nook tablet locks you into the B&N app store. Rooting no longer possible.

    From the article:
"...According to reports from from the xda-developers forum, the Nook's new 1.4.1 firmware update that was rolled out this week disables root access and removes the ability to load third-party apps..."

I sure that's hurt sales and I suspect a number of Nook Tablets returned to the stores for a refund as a result.

    I love my Fire.

My mother has the Nook Tablet and has had to send it in three (3) different times because the battery keeps crapping out.

if you do a factory reset, it will take the Nook back to 1.0.1. I just did a NC with 1.4 and took it back, then rooted it. And the experience of Honeycomb was so blah, I just put 1.4 back on.
