Mine is making the exact same noise. I have an appointment on Wednesday for oil change. Will post up then if no answer before then. My throw out bearing has been whooing from time to time as well. Hopefully not looking at mega bucks!![]()

I guess that means my clutch might be ok. Man I hope so. That would be tough right before Christmas! I'll let you know what I find out Wednesday. I have not noticed any issues with driving....you?
#6
Had my oil changed at the dealer. Couldn't get the sound to happen (always the case right)and played my audio file of it, but they had no clue. They were stumped. I guess it will remain a mystery.
#8
I mentioned it, they just sort of shrugged it off. I will just keep an ear out so I can swing by when it is happening. Problem is the dealership is not around the corner.
#9
i noticed the same sound the other night when i was checking my catch can level...
a little concerned as well..its deff towards the front sound like from under the intake manifold...
that was replaced on mine a while back bc of the flapper motor problem...so idk if thats it. i hav the clutch hoo/chirp noise as well. im gonna take it down monday or turesday and see what they say...![]()
#10
Cool, be sure to post up answers. Mine hasn't made the noise in a week or so.
#11
Water pump is under the intake manifold.... They have been known to make noise and go out.
#12
na the water pump is more of a high pitch small animal in trouble type of sound
i have a video of mine too ill post after it goes to youtube...

Right there is where the waterpump belt and pullies are. I cannot think of anything else but that making that noise in that location, unless the bearings on the balance shaft are going out.

The strange thing is that it has gone away recently. The noise posted by sum41 is more harsh and metallic, the noise I had was more of a humming baby wookie like sound. It was also making the noise at different rates. Sometimes over and over, sometimes with a gap in between. I recoded it, but can you post up an audio file? I would be happy to share it!
#16
yea definitely more harsh on mine but definitely the same noise...doubt its the water pump..
compared to these videos..the water pump noise is more of a high pitch constant high pitch whine in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88U0E...eature=related
and in this you can hear it at 0:16, 0:24, and 0:54 time marks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUQNw...layer_embedded
so im confused...maybe at the dealer tomorrow i can get answers

That last video post is the same noise I am hearing. Any word at the dealership? My dealership techs were stumped.

#19
Keep us posted. Someone online identified it as a bad pcv. Does that make any sense? They said they had it replaced under warranty and no more noise.

finally got down to the dealer today...turns out that is my water pump. the lead tech actually felt the pump and then made me (no homo) and i felt the surging. dropping it off monday for that and the clutch hooo noise (from another thread). ill post up my service report when i get it.
#23
Dangerous to drive it making the noise, or just set up an appointment when I can?
#24
so i made another video to get it high quality i also pulled the dipstick to see what would happen

If you have a high pitch sound coming from what you think may be the water pump slowly unscrew the coolant reservoir cap to release some of the pressure. If the sound goes away it is your water pump. Take it from someone who has had three water pumps since the end of September.

Interesting I assume the Water Pump is Driven by something !
Are Both the Sound Clips submitted - DSG - Trans ?
It seemed to be coming from the Front or Chain Driven side of the Motor
Is there a Vent to allow Air to Cool the Belt or Electric Motor - just saying as Not Sure
what Drives the Pump .
It Looks pretty Sealed Up , sure seems there should be a Vent .

Mine is doing it and I have m/t. Going to try to swing by dealership today, hopefully it decides to act up so they can hear it for themselves.
#30
so they gave me a call this morning...
they replaced my flywheel for my clutch noise. im going tomorrow to pick it up so ill scan the printout for you guys. have to go back in a week or so when they get in the water pump cuz it was back ordered from VW so well c what happens between now and then. (about a week they say).

Interesting. I just stopped in at my dealership today for them to hear the noise. They had no idea what it was. They said they had never heard that sound before and when I mentioned your post about the waterpump, the tech said he doesn't even know what the pump does or what parts are inside which could fail. They did not instill much confidence in their services. The tech said he has never had to deal with a water pump, so he had no idea what to tell me!
#32
thats when you know you need to go to another dealer...even if it is a lil bit aways.
thats what i had to do when the dealer i WAS going to told me that a noise that was coming from my front suspension was my axle hitting my frame, then my exhaust angle spacer, then my oil pan, then they said bc i had mods they didnt wanna touch the car any further. i laughed in their faces and told them to go **** themselves.
i brought it to another place and they IMMEDIATELY told me it was hub bearing.

As IN an Axle Hub Bearing ?

To be clear the sound of a wheel bearing going bad is not the sound i posted.
