interesting. i recently started hearing the same noise.
i guess i'll be taking it in for my last warranty service.
could this somehow be weather related/caused? (dallas goes from freezing to warm to freezing and back and forth)
I have a 2008.5 as well. DSG.

In the last 12 weeks I've been having this issue. I first had my water pump replaced after it blew out at 33,000 miles. Two months later the ringing came back and I had a slow drip of coolant. I had my 2nd water pump put on, along with a radiator, and throttle module. A week later the ringing came back. This time they replaced the intake manifold but that did not resolve it since the ringing started up before I even got off the VW lot. Two days later I had my 3rd water pump put on. A week later the ringing came back. I have my 5th appointment for this issue scheduled for Tuesday. I've tried two dealerships too. I noticed yesterday I has some small oil seepage around the cylinder head. So I'm thinking that is were the air is getting into the coolant system causing the ringing and my water pump to keep going out. Hopefully I just need a quick valve cover gasket and/or Cylinder head gasket replaced. Currently have 39,400 miles.

So it was the waterpump huh? I figured it would be. I mean really, that's the only thing up there that can make that type of noise.

so my car is at the dealer since yesterday, wanted to get an oil change and fix a window issue as well,
brought the car in and the noise was being made, i made sure the service writer heard it. later in the day no noise because it was probably cold and since they were closing they didn't have time to drive it/ take it off the lift. but i showed the technition my video and he was like yea thats not right i'll drive it tomorrow. get a call this morning saying that the water pump has failed and they are overnighting the part and i can get the car tomorrow. i will report back to let everyone know!

Yes, I heard it - Vent or Pump , Odd thou it changed some when You pulled and replaced Oil Stick.
Dam : whats Up with all this - sounds like a few to many - maybe a Q.A Issue with WP Vendor .
Will everyone with Water Pump Issues , check the Coolant with Litmus Paper for Acidic Conditions & Voltage Tester to see If there is any Currant Flowing across Coolant ?
Just trying to Eliminate any other issues to Drill Down to the Actual Failure - Cause .
Everyone should also List , Miles on Motor , and what Color Coolant was in the System when
this Happened .

I got had my 4th water pump put on by the dealership today in the last 6,200K miles due to the ringing. This time the vw tech said it's an issue with the seals. They are getting a lot of complaints about this with with audi's too and are working a new water pump for the TSI's.

well picked the car up at 4:30. made sure everything was ok before i left dealer and after i got home. went to go on a 4 hour drive at 5:30, i start the car and then mad steam and red low coolant light. filed the tank up and limped to dealer not far.
i moved the car to get closer to the hose...
tiguan until monday![]()

jut started hearing a really high pitch constant ringing coming from where the waterpump is...goin back after new years![]()

That look like they may have not tighten a hose of something. Hopefully, you don't go through the many water pumps I've gone through. Have your dealership submit a tech ticket and get it noted that more VW are having issues. I know they will come back and recommend a new water pump, but at least it's noted that more VW's are having issues and not just with Audi's

Had my car in for the noise. Diagnosed as pump. I am a bit concerned as the paperwork states the coolant pump was removed and reinstalled. How can I tell based on paperwork if they replaced the pump?
#52
Definitely a bad pump... as it was when this engine was first introduced back in late 2009.... VW has had huge issues with this design.
BTW... please learn to embed the video... like this....

They did, in fact, replace the pump. No noise as of now. I guess we will see how long that lasts!
#55
My car has been making this noise on and off for over a year. I don't hear it often, and of course never at the dealership.
#57
got me kinda worried now. i topped off my coolant begining of last month and im already at the minimum cold line. wheres it going? idk. im gonna listen for the noise later today. on a side note, whoever it was that had their flywheel replaced because of a hooooing noise, was it replaced under warranty?
#58
My car is on its third pump now, dealer has been great, aside from the fact that the pumps keep failing. I have already filed a complaint with VWoA. Really frustrated with the car, it's been perfect except for this.
Anyone have any issues on 12' TSI's?
#59
the higher pitch noise is new pump?
My new pump is starting to do that, does that means its going to fail again.
#62
My car has 5600 miles +/- and it is now on its THIRD water pump, latest part revision (06H121026BA). It was replaced 3 weeks ago and now the high pitch sound is back, just as it was when the first and second wp's failed:

when your pump failed how did you know? my replacement one is starting to make that noise when its warmed up.
My original one never hard coolant on the ground but they said it was failed. and car is not overheating.
#64
Once you have the noise / sound / hawl it is just a matter of time before your wp breaks and leaks all the coolant out. Car will give you the "low coolant" warning and your engine will overheat.
Took this vid last friday. It is the new wp FAILING. No leaks yet though:

have you been able to get your wp replaced with just the noise or have to wait for failure?
#66
Truth is the noise is enough for my dealer to replace the wp (thankfully!). They know the part will fail and that if they wait for that, then they will have to tow the car from god knows where to their workshop, making everything more difficult and more expensive for them.![]()
