    Torn between these two. The 2006 special edition is more rare, but the RS4 is a beast. RS4 is roughly $5000-$8000 more with similar mileage and similar condition. RS4 has the carbon issues, S4 shouldn't since it is not direct injection, right?

    Curious as to other opinions and pros and cons for each. Posting this in B7 S4 forum as well.

    Correct the S4 wont have carbon issues. Having owned both a B7 S4 Avant and B7 RS4, I'd give the nod to the RS4 if you're looking for a truly "special car". I enjoyed both cars and yes the S4 SE is rare but not in the same league as the widebody, high revving RS. I had a Milltek exhaust on my RS and received compliments, on a weekly basis, on the exhaust note (from guys as well as women !). I also had carbon issues and frankly, didnt know it until I had CEL's. After a carbon cleaning (covered under warranty due to having CEL's), the car was even more of a beast ...
