Hello good people,
I am in the process of building my caddy and i am trying to see if any good person out there can get me some south african mk1 caddy rear bumpers.......
Here is a pic of what i am talking about:
Can anyone help me out? I understand that this item can still be attained from the dealership. Is that correct?
Regards,
Oscar

Hi
I live in Johannesburg, am a keen VW fan. I'll see what I can do for you. The caddy has been off the market for a few years now, but the parts may still be available.
If so, I'll let you know, and put them on a local auction site for payment by paypal. Cool?

That would be great!!! Please let me know anytime as I will always need them. Thanks

I'll look a little later on - shops aren't open yet.
I can't remember whether the local model had reflectors or not.
When I was still in the trade, we used a Caddy as a runabout for many years. The local model was fitted with a 1600 carb engine (FR code?). Many fitted the HV 1800 8 valve carb, then real enthusiasts went the whole hog. Either 1.8 or 20 8/16V normally aspirated or turbo. I built a 330HP 16V 2.0 fitted with a 944 turbo cup turbo. Ran at 1.4bar (19.6psi) with 2 electric injectors fitted to the throttle body. Ran 11 sec 1/4 mi at 6000'. Ridiculous, but fun
My last Mk1 Golf was called hooligan. Bored to take the local Microbus 2.5i 5cyl (Audi block) pistons on a 2.0 8V crank. Swept volume was about 1.9 litre. Head was skimmed, and compression ratio (never measured or calculated) required running on 103/130 0ctane Avgas. 130HP on the wheels
I stopped fixing cars as a profession in 2003. I still keep in touch, and hang onto my beautiful Snap-Ons

Classified forum rules require that you post a price. If you don't know what to ask, they suggest that you search past FS threads.
So, when your item sells, please don't edit out your price and description when you mark it "SOLD". Rather, edit to show selling price.

Moderation needed.
Saw a caddy the other day with the right bumpers. Still a few running around.

Have you tried finding out for sure whether these are still available from VW in South Africa? According to Wikipedia they were still in production in 2006 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Caddy. I used to open the VW product line web sites for SA and drool over new Caddys and it seems like it was more recently than that.
International cel phone rates aren't that costly. I've called the UK numerous times cheaply. Select a dealer http://www.vw.co.za/en/tools/navigat...r_locator.html Make sure that it's business hours there, call and talk with their parts department.
For a while I was considering going to South Africa, buying a late model used one, selling the engine there, shipping it back to the US an using it as "spare parts" to repair a US Caddy's passenger stut tower(where the VIN is). Can't remember how I searched but there are Craig's List type services in South Africa. Saw hundreds of used Caddys for sale. I wasn't looking for wrecked part outs but it seems reasonable that there would be.
Another idea; search for dismantlers in South Africa. Contact them.
Let us know if any of these work.![]()
