Well, I just want to say that I thought I wasn't a wagon fan, but I absolutely love the swaggen wagon! Idk what it is, but there's something inherent about the beauty and sophistication of a Passat, regardless of body type or generation. Anyway, the tint looks great all around! Love the stock wheels, too. I'm sure you've noticed this already, but if you look at the first pictures you posted, the street lighting makes your wheels seem to appear copper-ish. If you're into doing something different wheel-wise, I think silver wheels with a copper shimmer would be a tasteful addition--definitely possible with the right powder coat. Might take a few small accents/changes to the wagon to pull it off, but totally doable imo--a friendly suggestion nonetheless.

Keep up the good work! Cheers!

    thanks guys!

I can definitely see what you mean about the copperish tone working with the silver. Ive always liked the look of matte bronze on silver cars. The plan for this car is to keep it simple and classic on the outside. That way I don't have the urge to change things up frequently. Thanks for the recommendation though.

Apparently the wagon has been officially spotted!! ha!

Yes. I put together tuning for both intake manifolds. There are some crucial differences between them.

Most of the development was derrived from Jesse K's Mk5 R36 project.

Where can I get this tune? And what are the numbers after the tune?

Georgous Wagon, I couldn't find any in Fla when I bought mine but should be adding a JSW TDi any day now. It's crazy how no one is making wagons anymore, it's like people forgot that SUV's suck and started buying them again.

Thanks Jeff, didn't know what to say about the tune's availability or not.

Ty, talk to ^this^ guy for getting one then. I thought you were selling your car anyway

If anyone has a dual stage mani lying around, let me know, Id love to do the swap now.

Ever since getting this ca,r Ive have a new love for wagons, and I get excited when i see other b6 passat wagons, volvo v70r's etc. I just love them

That was with the cruise set for a long highway trip. I definitely cannot complain though with that mileage for a 3.6 4mo! I took a business trip the week prior and almost got 30 mpg!! I don't need an increase in mpg, I need an increase in performance!!

Just curious - what tweaks did you make? I have a 2.0T TSI and would drive it much more if it was rated better than 19mpg city.

Is that what the 2.0T is really rated for in the city? In my 5 years of ownership (and 48k miles) I've averaged 25.2, and most of that is city driving.

    Sadly, yes:

I've had it about 3 months and the mileage has been right around that. Thanks, Atlanta traffic!

As much as I appreciate the enthusiasm, and Jeff's input, lets please keep this thread on track and move the specifics of the chip tuning to the thread you made Derek:

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...821-CPU-Tuning

I will provide some details on the chip in here, for this car when I get some spare time. But I dont want my progress thread to become a inquiry site for Jeff. Im sure he would prefer to track all his serious inquiries via the UM email/contact anyway.

Thanks for your understanding, and for checking into my thread. I will post a review on the tune shortly

    UPDATE:

Took my wagon (now with the UM tune) to the track last night. Results are less than desired.

Before, I ran a 14.5 @ 96, with a 2.1 60ft. Little less than 1/2 tank of gas, 93 oct, nothing but a drop in AFE filter and removed suitcase muffler. So essentially, stock. 70 degrees or so. Managed to get multiple 14.5's, so it was not a fluke run by any means.

Last night: BEST run of 14.677 @ 94, with a 2.2 60ft. A few 14.7's, and 2 14.8's. all at 94 or 93 mph trap. Less than 1/4 tank, no new mods other than the chip, and it was 38 degrees. All runs were made in the same lanes, at the same track. So no weird variables here. Everything about last night "should" have made for a better run...

I have not concluded yet that the chip has made the car slower... As I stated in my review, the overall drive ability is definitely better. I need to really break down the data from the 14.5 run and compare it last nights. The car feels faster in everyday driving, it really does, but the numbers don't lie. The 60ft was consistency 2.2 last night, so a tad slower/laggy, and the et and trap speeds were both down. Implying that car has not gained in either department with the new UM tune. (again, im saying "implying") I am not trying to stir the pot here. I definitely want to discuss these results with Jeff. I went into this expecting some definitive gain, not just a seat in the pants feel. I just fear it may all be placebo after last nights results. ET+60ft, and trap were all less than last time, not only that but I couldn't even MATCH my stock run, let alone beat it.

Just wanted to update it here, so anyone considering the UM tune for a 3.6, has more knowledge to work with.

Were they warming the track? I'd think the 2.2 would be more a function of how well you can hook up when it's just above freezing.

    Nick,

Not that I saw, when I was there. Hooking up with the 4mo isn't really an issue. The only thought I had - not sure if it makes sense yet is that with a colder track the car's front wheels will be more prone to spinning, which would engage the haldex split more than when I ran in the summer. Causing an overall less amount of power to be put to the ground. (X amount of power to 4 wheels < X amount of power to 2, more DT loss. I don't know the specifics of how the haldex works, but once the car is moving again, I would think power would get redirected back to the front when slipping decreases.

if the chip is supposed to add 8-10% of overall power though, that is 25-30 extra I should have. (all estimates, nothing has been proved by me or claimed by Jeff). SO even if my theory is true, it should only account for the 60ft and front 1/8th mile. Not as much the back half. Obviously a slower start makes for a slower finish/trap, but it appears to be a slower run all together.

as of the summers runs vs last nights, there is a definitive lack of improvement in 1/4 mile acceleration, based on the numbers.

Quick update. Its been a while since ive done anything but drive the wagon, but she is now my only car since my jetta has been getting parted-out for the past 2 months.

This weekend, with the help of a coworker I performed some general maintenance and diagnostic work. We are trying to figure out why my steering when turned from side to side while stopped clunks. It seems to be internal to the rack and not any bushing or outer component. We also attempted to swap his winter wheels from his mk6 gti onto my car... turns out the rear brakes on the 4m0 wagons are too big to fit under 16" steelies. This means my rear brakes are bigger than a gti's fronts

On to the cooler stuff, Thanks to Nick for the advice (mp3dub) I successfully hardwired a tomtom gps unit in the car. Since i am too broke for an RNS-510, I decided to hack open my cigarette lighter adapter, and solder up a small harness using what Nick lead me to, vw "repair wires". These wire clip into the fuse box on the interior and allow you to essentially add circuits with a fuse in any blank spot on the panel. I used an open spot that already was receiving +12 ignition power and added the wiring for the gps. Wrapped it all up and routed my wires, and now I have a gps thats not using the cigarette lighter.

Ill throw some pics up in a few days.

QUESTION - does any other 08 4mo owner know what fuse controls their interior cigarette lighters? My manul leads to me to blank ports. and both outlets do not work.

In the upcomming month or so Ill be doing my first haldex fluid change, some new brake pads, and potentially some other things.

    thanks for checking in

the clunking noise coming from the steering is the fault in the steering rack. I had to battle with my stealership for them to change it. They said the noise was normal. You need to install the newest steering rack (stage 5 i believe?) for the noise to go away. It is very annoying.

Thanks for the tip, is there anyway to check what current version I have? My CPO- warranty is running out soon, and I'd to have it replaced if it is indeed faulty.

Some parts have been ordered for the wagon, and I should have some cooler updates soon.

Theres actually a TSB on it.

    TSB # 40 07 01 April 2, 2007
    Front Suspension, Knocking noise

It blames the anti-rust wax causing movement. The Rack I had in the car (along with every B6'er with the same car) was a Generation 2 Rack. My mechanic said he replaced it with a Generation 3 Rack. Because the Racks are different he had to replace the Harness as well. Everything was covered completely under warranty. they also performed a wheel alignment. Try to get this issue solved ASAP because once that CPO warranty expires, you're not going to be happy about the price tag on the labor and parts for this job.

    Good luck
Here are the part numbers in case anyone is interested.

Anytime Let us know how it goes.

Btw, do you have any videos of your car from the outside? I'm debating on whether or not to get the suitcase muffler removed.

lmk if that works, there are 2-3 of them there. I am working on getting more.

If the link doesn't work, there are the individual links on page 1 or 2 i think

Cabin is louder than I expected it to be. I have seen other in cabin videos and the exhaust did not sound as loud as yours

my rear seat passengers seem to mention the noise moreso than my front passengers. But majority of non-car people ask about it - but dont complain.

my dad: " mmmm, it has a bit of a snarl to it"

coworker: "why is it so loud, is it broken?"

friend: "you got exhaust on this thing? sounds sick"

guess it just depends on who is riding at the time . Non of the above quotes are car people either. Then you have the handful that never even say a thing about it. I have gotten used to it. I will say it is much louder outside the car (or when the windows are down) than inside the car.

Quick update: After black friday, I have been doing some shopping for the wagon.

    Ordered:
    - HPA SHS coilovers
    - Hawk Ceramic pads
    - USP ss brake lines ( all four)
    - USP led puddle lights
    - 034 density line strut mounts
    - Oem rear strut mounts and hardware
    - HPA r32 velocity intake kit
    - HPA core-interlock dogbone mount
    - OEM votex front lip

Installed thus far - only the intake. And I love it. fit finish is top notch, Darryl @ HPA was great to deal with, and he even gave me some extra tubing for the longer reach that the passat has to the lower bumper grille.

    KW/HPA SHS coils (r36)

    HPA r32 velocity intake

quick video (from my cell phone, doesnt quite do it justice for sound. But it is much deeper and louder, only when you are really on it) either way, i am very happy with the mod so far. best heard with headphones.

Car has hpa intake, removed suitcase, and UM 3.6 tune. upper rpms are very free and light. Love the way the car feels.

The coils will be installed in the spring most likely. I also have a haldex service kit waiting to go on ( will post update when I do it) and need to take it in for some cpo work. Next thing to go on will be the HPA hockey puck and puddle led's I am thinking. All in due time.

    Thanks for checking in!

Awesome!! How much was the intake? And was the install fairly non-invasive? And vag-com needed?

Sorry for silly questions. I don't have access to vag and have wanted to add this intake for a while. Just want to make sure!! Can't wait to see the other add-ons in ace!!
