Thread: mk4 12v vr6 timing chains cost? anyone wanna help out?

    1. 11-25-2011 11:36 PM #1
looking for someone local to do a timing chain job on my mk4 12v. I wanted to get that done and do the water pump at the same time. does anyone know of any shops or any local people who can perform the job for less than 1300 that everyone is quoting me? and thats just labor!!

I can provide parts if need be. Also one shop i talked to said that they wanted an extra 5 hours to do the clutch, even though the clutch has to be removed anyway?! that doesnt seem right does it?

I am thinking of doing the clutch at the same time if the trans is gonna be out anyway since i think its the original but not if i am gonna get another 5 hours tacked on to the job just in labor....doesnt seem right.

mk4 12v timing chain kit should not be 1300 bucks just in labor should it? add in a chain kit (200) and a water pump (50) and another 3 or 4 hours of labor for that install....just seems a bit much? I have been out of this scene for so long but i didnt think prices would go up that high?!

well i think that 13 hours is fair.... the transmission has to come out...its not a fun job and in someones garage with no lift its even less fun....to the tech working on the car he might see 250 of that 1300...so just think...if you dont do them frequently its an all day job if nothing goes wrong.

Give us a call at NGP (410-994-0000 - MD, 703-454-3000 - VA). We can definitely beat that price. Parts AND labor would be far less than 1300, and we do not charge extra time to replace your clutch.

Respect to TDI Driver, for showing some compassion to us consumers!
I can understand another 1hr charge for the clutch; just for the strentgh its a different task but double the labor without double the work is rediculous... DO NOT USE that mechanic ever!!!
