Thread: Toyota Officially (And Finally) Reveals 2013 GT-86

If that's the case, and that's a big "IF", then they should be selling just fine.

You're absolutely right, but that was the closest comparison I could find. Also, that's why I put a big "IF".

Bout 1K more than a base 2.0 GC manual (no lsd).

I paid that much for a new Jetta in 02. I can live with that.

Love seeing the car driven as fast as possible as opposed to sideways.

I've seen published numbers showing 7.6/8.2 for manual/auto. Motortrend predicts it will be 6.2~

It's all over the map. A SI does around 6.5 as a fwd so I'd expect around that. Remember that 0-100 is 0-62ish and may or may not have had a 3rd shift.

Weight looks promising. I expected 200lbs heavier.

      Now for price.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this thing, with an optimistic, clutch-abusing Car & Driver reviewer at the helm, will post 0-60 times in the 5.9s range.

15 years ago, the original 197HP Boxster which wieghed more and had a 5-speed transmission was going 0-60 in 6 seconds flat, with some magazines putting it at 6.2 seconds.

This car is lighter, is better geared, and has newer tires. I am hoping for ~5.9s. But we'll see. I would not be surprised at anything in the 5.9s-6.5s range.

I'm not gonna lie it does seem a little high to me too. I bet if you go all Fast 'n' Furious on it the time will be more acceptable.

pardon my Japanese, but a gutted interior with suspension changes, sticky tires (I presume) and other unknown parts equals 'mild mods'?

My one complaint about this car is that they intentionally put **** tires on it as a design decision. A good 0-60 time requires a good launch, and I'm thinking that will be extremely difficult in this car.

That's a "mild mod"? A BBK? You DO realize that when Chris Harris drove one, he noticed brake fade very early on. A mild fix would be more aggressive pads, but not complete race pads OR a brake overhaul.

A gutted interior may seem milk, but it doesn't really count. Mild mods are like intake, header(s), exhaust, and a slightly stiffer suspension.

No look, he's right. IT'S A CONSPIRACY. Japan is still angry about WW2 so they've been making boring cars and killing of their sporty ones to get Americans interested in a new one. But the GT-86 is really a bomb. So now they'll sell lots of GT-86's and blow America up.

So when you're going from a stop into a parking spot do you just go from 0-60? What about at the drive through? After you order your food do you drop the hammer and do 0-60?

      Pulling into the garage...0-60?

Get off the computer and drive. 0-60 times are numbers.

Both cars have 200HP but one has 50lbs less torque.
      OMG...LESS TORQUE!?!?!?! How dare they.

My opinion - this car is just a big failure!
You can breathe a sigh of relief. Because whether or not this car is a failure doesn't hinge on your opinion.
