Well I called Animal Plastics and they won't have "extra"cages for sale at the NARBC show so I took the plunge and just ordered a PVC Cages 48x24x24 with Perches for my Argentine... I'll post pics once I get it in and settled![]()

I need to call and see what they can do for me. The belly heat that I bought with it form animal plastics does not work.My little ones are on the chilly side!
#109
By "cheap"what do you mean?
I went with the 80 watt Radiant Heat Panel, She's a climber and I figured it would be better and more efficient for her. I can't wait to get it!

I got an economy rack for juv/adult 5 shelf. I never needed the heat in the summer cause they were always at a nice 93 +/- because i don't have ac i just have fans. But now that it's cooling down, so are they and it's going lower than I would like. I've tried thermostat, and just straight plugging it into the wall, literally i touch it it's not on. Not warm, just plastic cold.

^^nice work on the cage
I've been lucky with Monty not having mites before, him being a rescue he is very comfortable around everyone, I've had people who have a fear of snakes turn around and say "that's it, I'm getting one!"..never witnessed a poop though haha, just always cleaning em up![]()

Thanks for the complements everyone! It's not exactly how I envisioned but am satisfied with the results. I wish the sky and clouds were very realistic but im not an artist and dont know how to make it look that way.
There's a drawer for the bottom I need to sand n paint. The rocks you see are just from the yard that I was going to incorporate into the cage but decided not to last minute.

I have been painting for 25+ years and I'm fine with the cloudsI went with a simple dessert looking sky and black tree, doesn't look good here but its the only pic I have. It's just canvas painted and taped on the back of my little guys glass enclosure. I'll probably get more creative once I figure out his next enclosure. I really like what you did, it looks like a nice piece of furniture and it has a storage drawer
I had just cleaned and put the substrate back in so thats why the absence of hides/etc..

Finished putting together the PVC Cage. 4x2x2 with RHP and sliding glass doors and perches. This thing is big lol. But everything went smooth as butter and my Argentine loves her new diggs, especially the perches. I dressed it up with some fake plants and green substrate and it takes up about 1/3 of what was a home office room. This things great so far, holds temp and humidity amazingly. When I can afford to, I'll be getting another one to replace the glass enclosure on top.

I like that tree in the background. It has a look of smoke flowing into a tree.

Very Nice!! ^^
I almost broke and got a BP this year at the Tinley show. I was eyeing a Champagne morph that I can't seem to remember or find a pic of but it was light purplish in color just really cool, but they wanted $1500-$2000 for them.
I didn't see any Blue Eyed Leucistics which kinda surprised me. Maybe I missed them, all in all a great show, very busy but lots stuff![]()

It's addicting. I started with my male pastel, Bumbles and now I've just got too many snakes. But I love them all and they're worth it.![]()
I noticed the same actually. I've seen a couple of super mojaves but either no one had any luck in blue eyed lucy's or they sold really really fast. I don't know?
#133
I was surprised that there were no blue eyed lucies either.... I think everyone is getting into the potion and crystal combos because they are commanding a much higher price...
I have a chance at hitting this year again. Hopefully I do!!
Nice looking spider Nemo!
My lone pick-up from the show was a champagne female.

I think it was the potions I was eyeing as well, very cool color. I was eyeing the champagnes too, nice pickup!! So do BPs move alot or at all when you handle them/take them out?
#135
Thanks! Potions are pretty rad. Mine was purple and yellow when it was born, but it she is greying out now...
BPs are all different. Some just stay "balled" up, but some just want to take off. A couple of my pastel hatchlings are angry little bastards and strike at anything that moves!

So I need some opinions or recommendations. I posted this in a couple places and I'm curious to what you guys think.
My female Pastel BP, Sunny, has always eaten live. She ate F/T once the first week I had her and then refused from there out so that's when we did the switch. I've never had a problem with her. She eats like a champ. Such a big champ that in the past 2 months she has attempted to eat her rat without fully killing it. Both times she struck it, and after a good length of time she released and started to grab the rat for eating. The first time, I went to check on my other snakes (I normally feed 2 at a time so it's faster), and when she got the shoulders I realized it as still breathing! It did wriggle a little bit and then when she realized it wasn't dead she curled it again and then killed it. Today however, this rat put up a fight, and she shook it a bit and then continued to swallow! It did die, i shook it's feet and when there was no movement or any resistance that's when I agreed it had died but has anyone else EVER encountered this? She's my first female ball python, and my 6th snake, and I would be devastated if something ever happened. She's always been a vicious eater but a sweetheart to handle so I'm a little amazed by this. I mean when she was just a hatchling she always drew blood and never hesitated on her food. Anyone have any recommendations?
#138
Not sure. I've never killed the rat myself, and the places near me don't offer that either....The other forum I'm on for ball pythons said it actually has happened to them before with majority other females. just wiggle the rat a little and she'll squeeze tighter. So we'll see how that works.

Personally I would never feed live, too much risk on our snakes and our pockets $$. I had my first boa didn't eat for a month (f/t) but she finally ate. If they're hungry enough they'll eat IMO. Shake em around a bit on tongs.

COOL! Thanks for pointing me to this thread!
...speaking of NARBC, the Anaheim show was just a few weeks ago and I went to check it out. LOTS of cool stuff there, and I saw this guy too (those are his carpet pythons):
