Might be starting a new project and wondering if I should go with a 5 Spd. 02J or a 6spd 02M.
I'm more concern about the holding capacity than having to shift more or less at the track. HP goals will be around the 700whp - 750whp and hoping for low 10's.
    What's your experience?
I know the axles on the 02M are thicker/stronger but what about the gears? Any advantage on the 02M Vs. the 02J?

O2M = wider gears, it will hold way more power than O2J
stock transmission won't hold that much power, you'll need race gears.

if your putting this in a mk2/3 body car then i would stick with a 02A/J box. the amount of work it takes to put a 02M in that car sucks plus you need axels right off the bat. try to find yourself a used 02A/J gearset and your good to go. if its a mk4 and can find a 02M swap at a reasonable price go with that. i personally hate the stock 02M ratios

02M's are definitely stronger but the problem you run into with them is high rpm shifting. 02M is significantly heavier too. There are a lot of options for O2A/J internals that hold plenty of power. Good luck on your build

i was having the same debate but i decided ill be sticking with an 02A , was thinking about going with the 02M but i already have the 02A with a quaife inside. It will be a mk3 24vt. Will most likely be buying gears sooner or later, what is everyone running out there besides APTuning stuff ?
