"i had an acetylene bottle in my truck, the valve was bumped so slightly and over night the truck filled with the gas. i noticed the smell, and opened the doors to air out the truck. i drove the truck out of the garage to get some more air movement. i went to roll the pass side window down and as soon as i touched the power windows. BAM. with me in the truck. i lost all hearing out of my right ear and got a scratch on the back of my head. all things considering, im alive."

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks.

The rest are caused by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

How is he alive? It ripped every panel on the OUTSIDE off. Imagine the air pressure that was created to do that.

gas still in the door cavity wasn't evacuated. the starter is very much outside of the vehicle, away from the gas.

i'm guessing that the passenger compartment was mostly 'aired out' but there was still a bunch of gas trapped in the panels and doors...dude is very lucky.

How are the inner sides of the body panels in tact while the outsides are gone?

And is that supposed to be the acetylene bottle, also intact?

I don't understand how it has enough force to do the damage it did with as much pressure as there was and it only scratched his head and damaged his hearing in one ear????

This guy is an idiot. Who actually has acetylene inside the cab of his truck? Welders know the power of the triple bond. Who would be dumb enough to SMELL acetylene and still energize the IGNITION system?

Really? No one has suggested darwin awards yet?!

This was my original thought. There is a reason trucks carrying explosive materials or gases have it in a separated container and are covered in HAZMAT placards...

Speaking of FJ cruisers I've always like them, but today I was parked next to an army green Trail Team FJ and damn that thing is nice. Pictures don't do it justice.

      To prevent this:

      http://www.brwelder.com/indextemplat...ubCategory=251

      or

      or some rope.

And if you think acetylene alone is "freaky", imagine it combined with oxygen. They would still be picking up pieces!
