Forgive me if this is the wrong forum to post this:

When I purchased my 2012 TDI, the finance manager at the dealer offered me and extended warranty contract for 7 years, 100k I think. I can't remember the exact price other than I thought it was totally beyond reason.

What is the general consensus on these? Are they a rip off or do you think they are worth looking into? Through VW or aftermarket? How much should I pay? etc etc.

A little about me: I drive about 12k a year and unlike prior cars, I want to keep this one for approx 10 years.

    Any input is appreciated!

I bought the 7yr/100k warranty. They are marked up 100%, so the dealer cost is half of the retail price. IIRC, mine was approximately $3100 retail and I paid $2060 or something like that. With a $100 deductible. If you are keeping the car for 10 years, I would definitely do it for the peace of mind at a minimum. Was too easy not to roll it into the 1.9% financing as well.

I bought the 7/100k extended warranty. I think it was $2600. I drive too many miles to just have the standard..

X2. I did the same. About 25k miles a year here. I also concur on the 1.9 finance it was a good deal for me.

Holy Crap! My 6 yr/100K on for my TSX was like $1100 (and that was full price). I'm glad for this thread. I'm a fan of an extended warranty (especially for a VW) and figured I'd go for it if I popped for the TDI Passat. But Gees........ even $2060 is like Wow!

I think you can always get the extended warranty later if you decide to do so(maybe for less), the only problem with that is that it cannot be financed with the rest of the car. Over $2k seems a little on the expensive side for an extended warranty.

the extended warranty costs more after the fact. it continues to get more expensive as you get closer to your standard warranty expiration time. If you wait until just before it expires it will cost you over 4k

I got the same, paid $1560 for mine... ( 3rd VW I bought from the same dealer, so I worked the pee out of them on it!)

I didn't like it that it was not a vw extended warranty but another agency. The dealership was not very up to date on all the details, they just kept saying everything is included except the usual. So I was asking for a complete list of the usual and they started rifling through papers and clearing their throats.

Is your warranty from vw or another company? Can I get a real vw extended warranty?

I just got the paperwork from my extended warranty. I guess Im a little surprised that the warranty is a Nissan warranty "QualityGuard+Plus Supreme". anyone else have this?

Got the 7 year 100,000 extended warranty.I put at least 20,000 miles a year on the car. Cost me $2,100 and rolled it into the 1.9% finance.

I never buy the extended warranty but I did this time. I drive 20K a year and since this is a new platform so to speak I bought it. I put 10 grand down, got the same finance rate but only paid 1400 for my warranty and I got the 100K.

Are you sure you guys didnt get suckered into buying the gap insurance and all that was wrapped up in the warranty? I had 2 choices for the top warranty. Basic 7/100 and then 7/100 with gap insurance and some other insurance. I opted out of the gap and other ad on.

I hate to say it but until VW proves to be more reliable(I have 3 of them) an extended warranty is a must.

We had bought extended warranty from CHRIS FARNHAM at VW of Langhorne, PA.
Was best price of anywhere for the 7 year or 70,000 mile deal.
\Previously bought extended warranty from Chris for 2004 W12 Phaeton,,and was well worth the money.
His price is far superior to that quoted by the local dealers here in Florida.

I purchased an e-z care platinum contract for cost because I sell cars... I got a 7 year 100k mile warranty for under 900 bucks... you need connections!

Think I could do better than $1800 for 6 year/75k? The only reason i'm really contemplating the warranty is for the DSG tranny
