Maybe someone can held me shed some light on the issue. Just to give a little back story. I brought my 2010 Tiguan new in July of 2010. Everything worked great, no issues. Then come the end of September 2011 I have a really bad coolant leak, bad enough for the coolant dash light to come on and beep. Got it towed to the dealership and it was my water pump. I was still under he 36,000 mile warranty so it was cover at no charge.

This past Thanksgiving week I noticed coolant leaking again and smelt it. It wasn't as bad this time to make the dash light come on. I took it to the dealership again and it was the back housing of the water pump and seals, yes the same one they replaced in September. The original only lasted 33K miles, this one lasted 4,500. They also replaced my radiator and throttle module.

Fast forward to yesterday, two weeks since it was replaced the second time and I think it's about to go bad again. I pulled into my garage yesterday and heard a constant high pitch whistle - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HWS2YmsGjo

I crank it up this morning and run to the gas station and no sound. On my way back, after the engine has had time to get warm it starts again. I don't have any white smoke from the exhaust, it hasn't started leaking YET, however, the passenger side of the radiator has a burn like smile coming from it, no smoke under the hood though. You have to get close to smell it. There is no smell on the inside of the car, even running the heat. I'm going take it back in the morning on the way to work to see if they can give it a quick check over, but in the meantime I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this or know of someone how has and what the issue was. If it's the water pump it will be the third one, 38K miles, second one in two and a half months.

Update: If I remove the Coolant reservoir cap to relieve the pressure the high pitch sound temporally goes away.

Sounds like the water pump. Has the dealer ever actually replaced the pump??? Or are they just resealing it each time its been in?

They replaced it at this past September. This past thanksgiving they replaced the back housing and seals again, the radiator, and Throttle Module. After removing the reservoir cap to release the pressure I can't hear the sound anymore and it still hasn't leaked yet. I'm going to take it in anyways just to have the check.

Have the same issue with mine. Noise first occurred with 400 miles on the odo. They replaced the WP, sound went away but came back after 500 miles or so. I'm not gonna bother with it again until I take it in for my oil change at 5k. I have 3k right now.

I'll have to try removing the reservoir cap and see if that does anything.

Sitting at the dealership now. They said the high pitch ring was from the intake manifold gasket and not the water pump, this time.

9.5 hours later and it is still doing the same high pitch sound. They just charged me $541 to replace the intake manifold because he saw my cold air intake and said it was the manifold, this was on the receipt. This even after I mentioned the only way the sounds goes aways is removing the coolant reservisor cap. I will be trying a new VW dealership.

I'm currently having some issues. Under hard acceleration the car is bogging down, and I have a misfire. Scanned the car and a flap in my intake manifold is not opening properly and my throttle body won't do an adaptation so I think the throttle body might be bad is well

The high pitch sound has come back, however, it's not as loud before. The only time I can now hear it is when standing next to the car with the engine running.

Air pressure is getting in somewhere causing air bubbles to build up around the housing seal causing the sound, however, no one knows how the pressure is building up.

Removing the coolant expansion cap once again relieves the pressure and the sound goes away until the pressure builds back up.

I'm going to drive it for a few hundred more miles which is when my next service is. I'm going to ask them to replace the coolant expansion tank, maybe the seal is gone bad there and that is where the air is getting in? It's only $25.00 for the tank and it's about the only thing that hasn't been done.

To recap, over the last 6,000 miles I have had the following done:

Water pump, housing, seals - (3 times)
    Radiator
    Throttle Module
    Intake Manifold

I will keep update the thread until a true solutions is found.

I have an appointment next week to see what has caused the ringing to came back. My service rep said that he will have to submit another ticket to VW Tech Corp to see what the next course of action is. After 3 water pumps, radiator, intake manifold, and throttle module I can't bring myself to believe that it's the water pump as the primary cause anymore. No way I get that many defective water pumps unless I'm the unluckiest car guy in the world.

Something has to be causing the ringing. Possible issues I will bring up with our service rep.

    1. Small crack in the head gasket that's allowing air into the coolant system causing the extra pressure build up. (I don't have an coolant/oil mixture or any white smoke from my exhaust.)

    2. Pulley and/or Belt

    3. Coolant tank and/or cap allowing air in.

The system was pressure tested a week ago when I had my 3rd water pump installed and no leaks were found.

Are there any other possible issues I can bring up, that I haven't already had replaced?

After 4 pumps wouldn't the lemon law kick in?

The lemon law in GA is also based on Mileage. If I remember correctly you have to be under 25K, and I was at 33K when mine first went bad.

Sorry man. This prob really sucks. Do this:

    1. Have your wp replaced with the latest rev. for your car (obviously ).
    2. Have the 06H103085J seal replaced.
    3. Have the "auxiliary" (electric) pump replaced (1K0965561J).
    4. Same for your coolant reservoir and its cap.

How many miles in your car? Any problems before this? Did you have the high pitch noise?

Because it may be working slower than it should be, thus causing more pressure in the water pump.

So I just hit 40,000 miles on my car yesterday, I was doing an oil change this morning and noticed that I have coolant leak. And it is coming from the water pump!

The aux pump has nothing to do with the regular water pump problems. The Aux pump only runs when you shut-off a hot engine, to circulate water thru the turbo housing to reduce oil-coking in the turbo bearing.

Looks like I'm up for this now, too. Our 2010 CC was low on coolant when I went to lunch today, topped it off and within 30minutes I was getting the low coolant light again. At just over 50k, I'm wondering if it will be covered under the 60k powetrain warranty...

[edit] According to the warranty paperwork that came with the car, water pump and associated seals are covered under powertrain warranty. Dropped it off this am. Here's to hoping the new seal you guys have been posting is the fix.

To add more: ours never whined/whistled/growled. Just started leaking coolant from the wp area.

Got the cc back today, I'll get a pic of the work order later. They put the "BA" pump in.

Second replacement pump is now making the whistling noise again. I'm not sure if I should bring it to the dealership before my 6 hour trip to Vermont or not. Should I just deal with it until VW has an actual fix? I just don't understand how EVERY 2011-2012 GTi doesn't have this problem.

My 2010 CC 2.0T has a BA rev pump, 29,000 miles, no noise or leaks. My 2012 CC 2.0T has a BA rev pump, started making the squeel noise at idle, when warm, when the car had about 400 miles on it. Now the car has 4900 miles, and the noise is gone.

Sorry to say man but i'm sure it will need to be replaced again. I'm bringing my car in on Monday. for my 3rd replacement. VW is having someone come down from VWOA to take a look at my car this time. The representative also said she has seen cases were they have modified the water pump.

My original pump lasted for 40,000 miles. We will see how long this one goes.

They couldn't reproduce the sound with is complete bs. I think there pretty much tired of replacing the wp knowing that I will be back in a few hundred miles for another. The service rep told me that i may just have to wait until VW issues a recall.

Yea that's why it took me so long to get my first one done b/c they couldn't hear it or the car wasn't whining so one time I pulled into the dealer and it was whining and I told them not to shut it off until I got the tech out there. Such a pain, anyway good luck trying to get the dealer to fix it for you and keep us updated. I sure hope VW comes out with something soon b/c supposidly they have been working on a fix.

worth noting, had another forum member have his pump fail recently, 11-12k on the car. Got his car back this morning and his part # was also 06j 121 026 AN.
