The time has come for me to let go of my QSW. I have a few too many vehicles and my need to pay the rent and keep a roof over my head is forcing me to sell what I can. Sooo, if you're interested take a look at my Craigslist ad here:

I am asking $3500 which is a lot I know, but these cars are becoming more and more rare, and this one is in better shape than most and is one-of-a-kind. I also just got done putting $3000 in to a completely new professionally replaced head. So, if you make me an offer for less than $3000 I will not even consider it. Otherwise please feel free to ask me any questions you want about the car.

Says original 5-cylinder in CL ad. 337k miles is certainly a lot but I had an '86 Jetta for over 16 years that had close to 300k before it needed a rebuild. The 5-cyl has a good reputation so that by itself doesn't put me off as long as it has good compression along with the other stated items in the ad.

I tend to be put off more by mods I don't want or, worse, want to undo, and there's a premium associated with the mods. Even if it's ten cents on the dollar, I as a buyer feel badly about paying for even a portion of somebody else's upgrade that I have to turn around and spend more money to get it the way I want.

With the caveat of I haven't seen this car in person so just basing upon the ad and pics, my take is this would a great car for the right person. The more mods, the more narrow the right audience would be. Then it comes down to what those people think about price. If time is a factor in selling this QSW, then lowering the price further will likely be necessary.

I had a new head and gasket put on the original engine this summer by professionals so the car runs great. I had a chance to look at the inside of the cylinder walls while the head was off and they are silky smooth... a testament to how well the engine blocks on these 5cyls were made. Yes it does have over 330k on it with excellent compression and that is because this car has been treated well by every one of its owners, including myself.

This is not the car for someone who is looking for a boring everyday driver. This is the car for someone who enjoys a vehicle for what it is... someone who can appreciate the effort that has gone into creating a vehicle with individuality and functionality combined in mind. That is the beauty and the attractiveness of the Quantum Syncro Wagon (and many other VWs for that matter). It is a rare and capable vehicle here in the United States and you will not see one on every street in America... add to that the fact that this QSW is even more unique than any other and that it has 337,000 miles under its belt, and you have proof that this is a truly special automobile.

I understand that the high mileage and mods may put off some people but I don't care about that. Someone who is worried about those kinds of things has no business in a car like this... they're better off in run of the mill mini vans and suvs and they couldn't possibly understand the experience that this car brings, nor do they deserve it. The mods on this car have been done right, and however small the right audience may be, I trust that they will be able to recognize that... this car rocks! It turns heads and gets comments almost daily from random strangers... It is capable, functional, comfortable and reliable... and these things must be worth something to someone out there.

after owning one of these and a few 4000sq's and csq's i have learned that the engine is the cheapest part to maintain, its the rest of the car that kills you maintenance wise. i spent alot of money and time on them. none of them had barely half the mileage this one does and were unmodified. they were worth it as far as fulfilling their duties as winter beaters until the rust got too bad to keep fixing. but the cars were still only worth $1500 or less . people who know what this is and would appreciate it would want a lower mileage car for the money you're asking. glws

I think this is a pretty cool QSW and always have. I remember some of the mods when you were doing them several years ago. I know how much time and $$ you've spent on her to keep her going and modify her such so it's tough to think about selling her for less than $3000. Great guy for being honest about the mileage too, but I'm afraid it may be the part that scares most. I personally have a MKII Golf that's about to roll 330k on the original motor and I have no worries about taking it on road trips. I'd love to get my hands on your car if I had the $$. I already have too many cars as it is as well. Trade a 1990 Golf with 330k and a payment plan???
