So I bought an '82 Caddy w/ a 1.6 Turbo Diesel about two weeks ago from my dads buddy. It hadnt run since '06 and since then the motor was removed with about every other part in the front end. The reason it was out of commission was the keyway on the intermediate shaft sheared off and so the timing belt came off and boom. Pistons were fine and the head was rebuilt but never put on. So we trailered it home with a bed and interior full of parts.

Some pics from the day I got it:

It originally had a square headlight front end but it also had a circle headlight cabrio front end in the back along with a 4 light grille. I put that on Day 1 along with the rest of the interior. It came with only one seat installed and was filled with parts. Then i started putting the motor together. It came with a new gasket set and head bolts so all i ended up buying was the tensioner pulley.

While the motor was out I did some patching and gave the bay a quick paint job.

After a couple days I got the motor set in.

After two weeks i finally got in on the ground. It came with bilstein struts w/ neuspeed lowering spring so i put them on. Im getting tires for it and they will be smaller so it can go lower in the future. It came with 5 snowflakes and three steelies but obviously im not going to run the steelies.

I need to lower the rear still. Does anyone know how low flipping the leafs goes?

    Needs moar low!

Had trouble starting it but I read a trick on a different thread. All I had to do was put compressed air into the return line to prime it and she fired up. Ran like **** for a while but now it runs like a top. I took it around my subdivision for her maiden voyage hoping no cops came around because it has no plates, insurance, bumper, or headlights yet. And my license is suspended

Heres some random pics from today. She is by no means finished yet but I'm glad to finally drive it.

Here it is next to my other truck. Its a 91 Silverado 2500 and loud as hell. But it gets 11mpg and I have to drive 45 min to school next semester so what could be better than getting 40+ mpg in a caddy?

Bump the thread with updates dude. Nice truck, but if you want to whore your build thread, do it by continuing to build the truck!

Ok heres a long over due update.

This is a little out of place but I found some pics I never posted:

This is the cap that came one it. Its ugly but im told its rare. Looking to sell

Heres an engine bay pic fully assembled.

Note the silly air filter I had to put that on because the airbox I got didnt fit very well. My guess is its a jetta airbox?

Ok now that the random stuff is out of the way heres the real update. So I got around to lowering the rear. I decided to go ahead and make drop plates seeing how material cost was less than $15 and retail is $110. They were fairly easy to make. Install was super easy except that I had to put in new rear brake lines because the were old and broke stretching up to the new height.

I was pulling it out of the garage when my first disaster struck. The front motor mount (thrust mount or whatever you wanna call it) was a little torn when i was putting the motor in and i figured itd be fine and stuck it in anyway. Well here it ripped so much it let the mount pop out. The motor rocked and broke off the bottom neck off the radiator. Soo close

I got a brand new one from work for $67 so i threw that in. Now the cooling fan motor took a **** so that sucks. Its winter by me so as long as I dont idle for 30min its fine. Just ordered a pair of 7" headlights so I can drive at night finally. After that I need a bumper with turn signals in it so I have front turns. I might jsut ghetto something up for now but I would love to get a eurobumper.

Unfortunatley no. My dad actually made them because he has lots of machining experience. All I know is he used the spindle to transfer the holes to the plate. My guess is from there it was just measuring.

Ive been driving it for a while now and today found out im missing the rear trans mount. Also my exhaust fell off on the way to work the other day but it was so nice as to leave me the down pipe. I half way to work when i heard a wierd noise so i pulled over and saw the exhaust hangin. I decided to try and drag it the rest of the way. About 1/2 mile down the road the noise stopped.. Not my problem anymore haha. It was all rusted and only half was there anyway. I also got a shift knob for the first time since i got it. And the lack of cupholders made me install some autozone ones.

This is how its been for the last few weeks. I got lazy and havent done the body work yet..

I filled it up for the first time also. I got 450 miles out of 12.5 gallons. Not too bad but not as good as it should be. Thats when i found this..

and an injector may be seeping but thats to be confirmed.

So thats my list for the next week...

That airbox doesn't fit because it is off a mk3 tdi. Also, it looks like someone converted your engine from a n/a to a turbo. You still have the n/a injector pump. Nice buy though. That bed topper looks like something from a sailboat.

A n/a pump wont cause any problems will it? And yeah, that cap is something else. It was the first thing off once I got it off the trailer.

No the pump is fine. All the turbo pump does is let you give enough fuel at boost while having no smoke at low rpms.

Sweet truck man ! I'm in the middle of restoring mine as well and i noticed in the pic of your fuel

tank it appears you have rubber fuel lines running right under the cab? Guess my question is did

you run rubber lines to and from the tank completely deleting the hard lines? My hard lines look

pretty beat and was thinking of maybe running a "viton" line(s) to and from my tank. Nonetheless

    great truck and good luck

That is all how I got it. I didnt touch the fuel system yet except for a new filter and plugging the lines into the pump

Damn I havent updated this in a looong time. Alot of progress has been made. I hardly remember what order this **** goes in. Heres what Ive come up with:

Per request heres some pics with the top on.

This is an old pic of it next to my buddy's vrT.

Now on to some real progress. Im not running that cap because its hideous (and still for sale ).

I put an exhaust on it after it fell off. Its silly but its grown on me after a while.

I was sick of the 4 different colors so i gave it a quick "temporary" paint job, aka spray paint. Since I have lost motivation to finish the bodywork and repaint it

Oh heres a few more paint job pics:

Nest was moar low. I filpped the axle and got raceland coils for it. Ik I cheaped out on the coils but theyre not too bad. The pan is almost on the ground and the helper springs are still in. Unfortunatley I didnt take many pics but here is the result.

(big dog or small truck? lol)

Then I finally got the wheels and tires. 13x8 Rota RB's wl 175/50r13 stretched on. Not a good pic but a buddy took this one of the stretch.

With the wheels on I got these results:

yes ik theres room for more

I took this pic next to the worlds best air freshener for reference

And here she sits (next to my other truck) until I find some more things to do.

Alright I dont think I missed anything. Overall Im decently happy with it so far. The front wheels and tires poke a bit much for my taste but Ive gotten used to them. Let me know of you opinions on it so far. And you dont have to be nice, I can take some hate

I just picked up a Caddy, you should ask your dad if he recorded any dimension for those drop plates?!

Also where did you purchase your front coils from?
