I purchased this bike a few month ago and put about 2-300 miles on it before retiring it to my bike lift. The bike is in the process of being torn down for a major over haul. Figured why not share my build with everyone that is interested if not for my own personal record as well.
I am shooting for this to be finished by early March, pending my budget allows it. None of these parts are easy on the wallet, especially during the holiday season.
Specs: 2004 Harley Davidson FLHTP Electra Glide (Retired Police bike) Was a Sheriffs bike.
To do list:
Front brake line
Integrate rear turn/brake light via hidden LED strips
Full Custom paint job
Plus much much more
Purchased items/already done:
Barnett stealth clutch and throttle cables
4'' dual slip ons
New seat
Shave saddlebag lids completely - No hinges
New 21'' contrast cut front wheel with matching rotor
Avon Front tire
New Hand grips with matching brake and shifter pegs
Fully adjustable air ride in the rear with VIAR compressor
Progressive 2'' lowering springs in the front
13'' Ape Hangers
New contour 21'' front fender
Arlen Ness Big Sucker air filter
BadDad Stretched saddlebags w/exhaust cut outs
BadDad Wide rear fender w/exhaust cut outs
Install BikeTronics aftermarket install kit/Alpine HeadUnit, Inifinity component system
Updated to New style Front headlamp (H4)
Bought new Saddlebag mounts to remove the saddlebag guards
Red LED Gauge light upgrade done via GAUGELEDMODS.COM
Convert dual front brake to single
Gloss Black Powder coated items:
Lower fork legs
Headlight trim ring
Crash bar
Street Glide front turn signals with brackets
Upper chrome bracket found directly under fairing
Horn cover
Shifter arms
Floorboards
Gas Tank console
Arlen Ness Big Sucker air filter cover
I will update the thread when things are happening, feel free to give any input or ask questions. This will be my second time tearing down a bike and giving it my own look.
Here are 2 pictures I just took tonight.
And my basement, where parts are being stored/gathered.
The new LEDs in the gauges, I chose this color because it matches the orange that will be present on my Alpine head unit.
Here is a sample of my bike work.
I took this:
And turned it into:
Hope everyone enjoys![]()

i find keeping the police bikes white and police-looking to be the most attractive. but your prior project looks cool as hell, so i'll be waiting for updates![]()

21" wheels were so last year ago. I can't wait to get my 23" front wheel.![]()

23'' Wheels are 5 years ago. 23'' is a waste imo. Hope you aren't doing it without raking the neck, because if you are you will mess up the balance of the bike. To put a 23'' wheel on the front, it will run you about $4000 to do it the half assed way. Cost about $6000 to do it the correct way. This time next year, my bike will be either sold or apart again for a 26''.
The neck needs to be raked to run a 23'' wheel. If you plan on running trees only, it's a bad idea and puts added stress on the stock neck. Ask any major company out there. Once your 23'' is on there, your headlight will now be aiming into the sky. So now you can add on a new fairing or a cheesy ass $400 headlight spacer that looks like a POS. My 2 cents, not saying you planned on doing it without raking the neck. My opinion is if the neck is getting raked, might as well go all out and go big. If I am sitting next to a bike with a 23, I bet nobody will slobber over his bike anymore than mine.

That is completely different, I thought you were speaking of a touring bike. You don't have a fairing on your bike, so that will save cost a bit. If I could run a large wheel up front correctly for under 6-7k, I would be doing it. I just can not fathom spending that kind of money on something that will make my bike ride worse. I have already purchased progressive suspension front lowering springs. A bike with a fairing is a whole other ball game to put a big wheel on front than your bike. My headlight can not be adjusted like yours, lowering the front end would not compensate for the rake causing the headlight to tilt up. You can easily adjust your angle of your headlight.
In other news, all of my air ride components have been received. Now that I have a decent amount of parts, I am going to start working on the bike soonPictures to come soon.

THIS. I work at an custom fab/ audio shop in NH and a very good customer of ours brought his new street glide in to have some work done. it came in the first time with a 23 inch wheel. he then months later showed up to have us custom do his fairings and bags to make them sit right on his newly raked out front end with his 26 inch. now less than 6 months later we are going to be dong it all over again to sit right with his new 30 inch wheel. sorry to thread jack. love your other bike and cant wait to see this one OP.![]()

It doesn't look like much, but I got my rear fender cover put on last night. I could go through what is involved, but nobody would really care. I also got my rear air shocks mounted and my lower saddlebag support bars. Next on the list is to get the bags on for a test fit.

Some more progress, removed all the latch hardware off the saddlebag lids. Got the saddlebags sitting on the bike (still need to be tweaked a bit to be perfect) and install my new Alpine in the fairing.
Tossed my handle bars on just to see how they feel. I like the height of them (13''), seem like they will be pretty comfortable.

Negative, I am however going down to Florida the week after bike week. Oh well, gotta go with the flow... Got invited down due to my mother in laws best friend's 50th b-day. The husband of the birthday gal invited us to go down as he rented a 6 bedroom house for the week and 3 vehicles. Little bummed out its not during bike week, but free rooming is nice. Round trip flights for the woman and kids came out to under $800I am looking into renting an FLH for a day down there, the mrs is going to do magic kingdom 2 days and I am only doing 1. So I gotta find me something cool to do.
