***Lake County VW Campout and Cruise***
      Friday
Meet up with those wanting to camp out the night before at either the Glenhaven Beach Resort or 1 can 'rado's families summer property (this is pending the ok from 1 can rado and his family). Jon and I will be arriving around 4 pm.
I will be bringing hotdogs and hamburgers. If someone or a group of people would be willing to bring soda/beer please let me know.

      Saturday
      Leave the campsite at 11am.
Head east towards the 20/53 junction.
Meet up with everyone that didn't camp or meet at the campground somewhere around the 20/53 junction. Will look into a good location soon. We will wait 15-20 minutes for those running late so plan on leaving there at about 11:30.
Head out 53 towards Middletown taking some occasional back roads so we arnt on 53 the entire time.
Show up at the Calpine Visitor's Center at around 12:30.
I will call Monday and find out more info on the campground and Visitor Center.
Jon and I be heading back to the campground no later then 4:30pm.

My gf mentioned going to the visitors center for an hour or so and then a relatively close area to cook food and have the actual g2g.

      Sunday
I will find out if there is a check out time for the campground but Jon and I will be leaving around 11am.

      Cruise
The drive from the campground to the Calpine Visitor Center is 30 minutes according to google maps without back roads. So I will be planning on taking some occasional back roads once we are on 53 to make the drive between 45 minutes to an hour.

Meeting Locations (pm me if you want me to post a meeting spot for you.)

If you want to cruise with us from eureka or meet somewhere along the way please pm me. We will be leaving Eureka around 11am.
If ur camping with us Friday and are coming from 101 we can meet on 20 right after you get off 101 and leaving there around 2pm.
If ur camping with us Friday and coming from I5 meet at the campground at 4pm.
For those that don't want to camp and are coming from I5 we could meet somewhere around where 20 and 53 meet (possibly Masonic Lodge parking lot if they will allow us to) and continue on towards Middletown.

For those that don't want to camp and are coming from 101 we could meet at the camping spot or at the I5 spot.

My friend caddyjumper93 will be bringing up the rear. If we loose anyone please get him on the radio and he will let you catch up and guide you back to the group. Also please notify me as quick as possible of any accident or breakdown as I will be bring some tools and any replacement parts/fluids I can find. I won't guarantee I will have what you need so please be prepared if you can. If I don't have my golf fixed by then or I do decide to bring my caddy i will hopefully have my car dolly finished by the time this comes just incase.

Both Jon (caddyjumper93) and myself will be on channel 7.1 on handheld radios and channel 7 on CB.
If you have a handheld radio please bring it along with any extras for those that don't have them.
This is all tentative for now. As we get closer things will become more concrete. I will be doing calling and messaging in the next few weeks to get things setup and ready.

And here is a map of my planned route. My gps says 1 hour 25 minutes without stops. Also my appologies for the size. its the best i could get and still look decent. if someone has street atlas from delorme i can send you the map file.

With that keep a look here for future updates.

If anyone has anything they would like me to add or edit to this post please feel free to pm me.

yes I have been there. November 18th to 20th for my gf's friends b'day and my grandma lives in glenhaven. Drove up and almost all the way over Cobb and up to the geo thermal plant. Hmmm... That's an idea. Who would be up for a tour of the geo thermal plant in lake county? I'll have to call and check on that Monday.

Pm replied. A few guys in the sacwater club are also willing to drive my routes so I can put you in touch with them if you want.

I will be updating the first post when I get home tomorrow. Gf has been in the hospital getting a kidney stone removed and I let her use my laptop. Editing stuffs hard from a phone.

Is that the same weekend as the R.A.V.A. show in Redding? If it isn't, I'll be down for this.

Due to the fact that when my dad looked at my planned route he told me the first ten or fifteen miles are steep inclines I will be re doing my route. The other idea is a cruise around the lake which takes approximately an hour to an hour and a half non stop. If I go with that route we will be stopping for lunch somewhere around Clearlake or Middletown and then stopping in a large parking lot somewhere on the west side of the lake for the g2g. I still plan on doing some back roads if possible. I will look more into this later today.

For those that don't want to camp and are coming from I5 we could meet somewhere around where 20 and 53(I think that's it) meet and continue on towards Clearlake/Middletown.

For those that don't want to camp and are coming from 101 we could meet at the camping spot or at the I5 spot.

Still planning and still updating so please bear with me. Should have final concrete plans by end of February.

how does everyone feel about a cruise around the lake? Personally I'd like to keep it under an hour but I want feedback about it from all of you.

Holidays kinda put a damper on planning but ill get back to it in the next few days. I should have a good update by my b'day.

For now the plan is as stated in the main post. Leave campground at 11am meet up with the I5 crowd at the 20/53 junction and possibly go to the geothermal visitors center in Middletown. I'll keep updating as details become more concrete

If were camping out for a few days. Any thoughts on hitting a(some) of the hotsprings in the area? many are cheap or free, and not as commerical or crowded as Harbin

for the campout Friday night would a potluck or bring ur own food be preferable? If potluck I will bring hotdogs/hamburgers and fixings. Also any vegans that will be camping need to speak up. If none do i won't be bringing vegiburgers.

I have no objections, the more delayed the cruise, the more time to get my car smogged and ready

pick a date you want, and do it. It's impossible to please everyone's calendar, lol. Anyways it sounds like a good time. So I'm in.

      Keeping the date.
I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6, Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

Have a great time. Wish I could make it, but prior commitments have priority.

Finally got a reply from Island rv park and they are just a rv park no camping like i thought. so as soon as i get ahold of my backup campground i will edit some info. for now heres the revised route. also i edited the route with a little less highway.

with that route it is 40 miles and according to my gps program will take 1.5 hours with no stops. i will try to shave 20 minutes off of it but for now thats my planned route.

Due to reasons out of my control I am forced to postpone the g2g. It will happen by summers end but for now it's cancelled. I will be looking into better dates and update this thread as soon as I can. Sorry guys. To many eggs in my basket right now. But again I am only postponing the g2g untill further notice.

It is looking like August will be when this will happen. So now I ask what weekend. All plans above will still happen but what weekend is best?
