i mean i know how the Magic didn't have much leverage since they were being held hostage by Dwight's diva attitude, but this trade doesn't seem all that great for them. sure they bottom out but they have to hope they hit the draft picks they get on high quality players to have any sort of legit return.

Exactly. If your team is not happened to be located in a preferred city then you have to pray for a great draft(s) that lands you a superstar(s), luck out with role players that have career years and just hit a time when the big teams are down in order to win. That's how the Spurs and Mavs have done it, but it's something that's also going to become more scarce in the future, IMO.

NBA should contract 4 to 6 teams. The talent pool would be greater on all teams making more parity for the mid level teams. They would have a better shot against the dream teams. As it is now mid level teams are in jail for ever unless they tank and happen to get a franchise guy.
Worst place to be is low end of the lottery to mid round picks who go 1 and done in the playoffs.
Lakers gave up a good player but a guy who has knee issues. For the best defensive/ rebounding / shot blocking center in the league. His offensive game is still suspect the total upgrade over Bynum might not be as huge when you really crunch the numbers.
On the other hand now LA is a huge destination for a Young PG or any other FA down the road. Kode is'nt going to last forever and neither will Gasol. LA does it again![]()

yea you just gotta hope they go through with a bottoming out rebuild. hard for teams to do since they have to still convince people to show up but it seems like this is what Orlando is doing.
Bynum has always been a guy whose talents aren't questioned but his desire to learn and compete to become a franchise player. he showed a little bit of that so it'll be interesting to see if he'll continue on a new squad.
and Howard isn't locked into staying on the Lakers. not signing until after the season so there's always the chance he's one and done there.

Just cause you suck a season, doesnt mean good things will happen in the draft. Look at the bobcats this year, or the previous years weak draft class. MKG could be a good player, but he isnt going to change the franchise around like davis. Even if a team gets a player like davis, or Kyrie; that still isnt enough to seriously compete.

He will resign where else would he go the Nets? LA is the primo destination in the NBA
#2459
Dallas is still interested.
Supposedly, the new Magic GM didn't make the trade. Some exec above him did.
Not sure how big of an upgrade Howard is over Bynum though. I mean, Bynum is arguably the second best center in the NBA. Not much else to improve, but then again, they didn't really lose anything in trading for D12. Still will be interesting to watch with Nash on board and them switching to the Princeton offense.
And anyone else excited for Denver and Philly? Both teams got some great guys in Iggy and Bynum.

Nets have no room to chase Howard in free agency anymore. They gave Brook Lopez a max deal, and Humphries $11m x 2yrs, on top of Joe Johnson's contract.
Of course, Howard can try to force a sign-and-trade with the Nets again next year. God I hope that happens. What a joke this league is becoming.![]()

This is funny...
-Yahoo's Wojnarowski broke the story of the Dwight deal being really close.
-ESPN's Bucher gets on ESPN radio and trashes the report as bad journalism and not realistic (while never actually crediting or naming Wojnarowski as the source).
-Then Chris Broussard and Stephen A. get on ESPN and report the same damn thing.
-Then it all ends up being true.

How cool is this?
Coach Pop let Tony Parker coach the last two minutes of yesterday's preseason game against the Hawks.
Parker himself drew up the game winning play

Caught the Nets Celtics preseason game the other night, and wow the celtics are looking strong. Loving this new bench as well.
Can't decide if I like Lee's explosiveness or Terry's 3s.

So...when's the 2012-2013 thread going to show up? Regular season starts on Tuesday after all.
Oh, and James Harden traded to the Rockets.

That was a head scratching trade, makes me wonder what taj gibson's future will be since he is the same contract situation.

OKC got over, Harden sucks and his game will be worthless now with the new flopping rules.
