I guess it really depends on what you want to accomplish...
PERSONALLY, 1.8" is not enough. Get coils![]()

If you're not breaking oil pans and scraping the subframe Vortex will never think you're low enough. I think 1.8" is perfect, I'm down 1.5" and 1.4" on H&R Sport springs and I'd like to go just a bit lower.
If you drive on dusty roads and have winter where you live, coils do require regular maintenance. The threads will need to be re-greased every time you drive on a reasonably dusty road and after every winter season to maintain perfect function.

If it sounds like sarcasm, it probably is.

mine is lowered 1.6" front and 1.4" rear currently, been that way since March. I'm on a set of B&G S2 lowering springs and to be honest i only got them because i stumbled on barely used set for an amazing price and i couldn't stand the massive wheel gap from factory. I bought the springs with plans to replace them with coils shortly and will be doing just that... as soon as winter is over.
That being said the drop on these springs looks great compared to stock and are comfortable. Drove from Chicago to Georgia and back (1,500ish miles) only stopping for gas, and to pee and was comfortable the entire way. if you have no plans on goin' any lower in the future... i can see you being happy with a drop of 1.8".
here's two shots of mine with the springs, ecs spacers [12.5mm front and 20mm rear] on Stock 17" Classix on 225/45/17 tires

cheaper than coilovers
only problem with springs is that ur stuck with the drop you get, but id say its worth it just because of the price difference. do what makes you happy though man

another problem with just springs might be blown struts. I dont know much just read a lot that struts tend to go out quicker with springs.... how much quicker?me dont know

Thanks, I'm happy with the height that my springs gave my car as a temporary fix until i get the coils I'm looking for.
Doin' just springs can result in blow struts in certain situations. For MKV the max drop you can do on stock struts is 1.5" any more you run a high risk blowing your shocks. Volkswagen even sold lowering springs as a Drivers gear option (1.25inch drop front/rear). If you want to go lower on just springs you will need to buy struts made to deal or get a cut kit... but for the price of this option you might as well get something like Fk Streetlines which are adjustable coils.
Hope that helps out
