Does anybody happen to know where one is? I pulled one out of a car at the Ramstein junk yard, told them I was going on leave and would be back to get it in a couple of weeks. Came back from leave and they trashed the motor. Now I have around $500 worth of VR parts and no motor to put them in...... The head on my motor is trashed, anybody had machine work done to a motor, if so, how much does it run over here?? I would rather just get another motor out of a wrecked car....

What year/size VR6 you looking for? Could you live with just a head? I may be heading out to a JY out here near Illesheim tomorrow. Gonna call them in the morning and see if they're open. I don't know if you have the means to transport an engine, but I can look if you'd like.

I've also got a buddy out here who may have a VR lying around. I'll see what I can do.

I have a 2.9 VR6. Complete with everything you need. I also have a 98 Jetta VR6 that needs a rear main seal replaced...

I have a 94 Passat, it is the 2.8l VR6. It is the coil pack motor, not the distributor. I am not sure if there are any differences in the harness for the 2.9 vs the 2.8. I wish I could just use the head, but my #5 piston sustained some damage and my #6 is in about 4 pieces. You guys happen to have a price in mind for what you have? I am looking for the cheapest option available to get my wagon back on the road!! I am heading down to Saarbrucken today to see some German friends. They have a motor, I am just scared about how much he is going to say he wants for it......anyway, thanks for the help and let me know about prices.

The yard out my way is dry. When my buddy is back from his holiday I'll hit him up and see if he has one. What are you looking to pay?

Hey there. I still have the motor and what not. I looked at it yesterday and it is a coil pack. I want this thing gone since I am planning on starting my garage soon. You also mentioned that you might have some people interested in it. Did anything turn up there? I have posted it up on Spangyardsales again. If not good huntings.

Well, just keeping you guys that care up to date. Got the motor taken all the way down to a short block today. Everything looks good. So far only have to order a crack pipe. Still need to pull the water pump out and check it. Might go ahead and order a new one anyway. Well, till next time.

I've got one I will sell you. It will need to be bored out to fit 83mm pistons from the damage that was caused when it blew. Other than that everything is fine. You would also have to find an intake mani.

I have a VR6 in my GTi, hella fun to drive, but heavy on the front end! Still trying to decide if I am going to keep it and go VRT or swap in my 1.8T.

You said "hella", you from Cali? Just go VRT, but bore it out to 83mm, which would make it a 3.0l just from the pistons using the same crank and cams! You can get 350whp with stock internals in a VRT!! I bet you wouldn't feel the weight then!

Nope, not from Cali, but spent plenty of time there. I have a buddy stationed in San Diego. I am leaning more towards the VRT, just gives me an excuse to buy another Golf when I get back to the states and drop the 1.8t in it.

Well, started swapping motor mounts out today. Have to get a broken bolt removed from one. BFI's Stealth mounts are going in. Have some seafoam sitting on top of the pistons right now to remove the carbon build up. Intake manifold and valve cover are being polished and painted by yours truly. I will have no A/C (didn't work to begin with) or power steering (ordered a kit from a guy in the stated to turn mine into a manual rack). So the front side of the engine will be pretty clean. Just gotta finish knocking all the rust, oil, and other random **** off the block before I paint it. I am hoping to have it back in the car and ready for exhaust by March. Then it will have an OBX header to 2 1/2" out to a MagnaFlow muffler. It will not have the OEM "suitcase" muffler or stock. Just gonna be low and loud!!! Also gonna start looking in junkyards for injectors........ That's all for now folks! I would post pictures but forget my damn camera everytime I go work on it!

Well, I have now fallen way behind schedule on where I wanted to be due to two things. #1 work schedule has changed three times in the past two weeks! #2 trying to get this MKIII to pass inspection so I can sale it! I am now on a schedule that will allow me to go work it before I go to work in the afternoons. I also go on leave in 8 days for two weeks. Going back to the states for my oldest daughters birthday. Can't believe she will be five already! Anyway, hoping to get a lot done in the next 8 days. Hoping to have it almost ready to drop in. Still have a few things left to order that I forgot about. Water pump, crack pipe, exhaust nuts......Then when it goes in it will be driven to Saarbrucken to have the new exhaust put in......Gotta be ready before Worthersee!!!

Yes, sorry for not keeping you guys up to date......motor got dropped in last night around midnight. Called it quits at that point. So today, I am going to hook up the shafts, all the plumbing, put my dash back together(from the trouble shooting tear down). Hopefully, turn it over tonight.....DAMN IT, forgot to put the battery on the charger. Anyway, once it's all done I will post the random pics that I have taken. I think you guys have maintained more interest in this than I have, I am tired and definitely not as young as I used to be! I will update this again tonight when I get to work at around 2230 local!

Well, everything is in.....almost!! Busted a half shaft trying to get the motor mounts lined up! Luckily I just happen to have one laying around, so it will go in tomorrow. Dash has to go back together and then tidy a few things up......it's finally coming together!

Three jugs of coolant, oil level good, half shaft replaced, and the dash put back together. Removed fuel pump fuse and "primed" everything.......Nothing!!

Ran diagnostics, injectors are opening!! Swapped in the correct ECU and SHE'S ALIVE! Although, she is ticking horribly!

After readin about 30 threads on VR ticking noises, I have come to the realization that I didn't properly prime the lifters!! I am now awaiting word from The Man in Saarbrucken to give me some advice. All the threads I read a while ago said to let the car run for about ten minutes and allow the air in the lifters to escape and the lifters to fill with oil......it just hurts to listen to all that hard work tick so bad!!!

SHE'S ALIVE!!!! Let the car run for about 20 minutes today without shutting it off. I almost threw up a couple of times due to the diesel sound coming from the engine bay, but I held on. You could slowly hear the lifters being primed. About 15 minutes into it I thought the car had stopped running! So I walked to the front and all you could hear were the injectors clicking!

I illegally as phuk drove it around the block a few times and my good she sounds good. Tried my best not to get the RPM's above 3k.

The power steering and A/C delete seemed to have freed up a little bit of power, but if feels like I am driving a 1955 Chevy. The car feels like it weighs about 4 tons when I go to turn from a slow roll!

Going to get TK plates tomorrow morning, and then off to B'holder for inspection! I hope she passes!
