    MKV Solo-Werks Coilover Review:

Hello guys my name is Jordan and I drive a 2006 Jetta Gli. Before I go into the Review, I just want to give you a little background of my car and my driving needs. I have only had my car for a couple of months now, and because it was straight from the dealership, everything was stock. Since then I have added some side markers and Helix Taillights. Before I even knew I had the privilege of testing out these coilovers, I was looking for a suspension kit that was going to comfortable but also be respectfully low.

    here is a before:Before:

A month or so ago, Glen, at AMI Motor Sports, posted on the Cen Cal VW Facebook page that Solo-Werks was going to be needing another Solo Test Guy for their MKV suspension kit. All I had to do was drop my car off in Fresno, CA for a couple of days so they could install them and test them out. As a Vortex reader myself, I did some research on these and found out from a handful of people that they were a good setup for the other Volkswagens they’ve been installed on. This sounded perfect for what I needed.

I then responded to the post, and a few days later I found out I was chosen to test them out! Once I got my car into Glen’s shop, it only took a few days to get the suspension kit installed and the alignment done. I had my car back within 3 days. Glen was very wonderful and was willing to answer all my questions and he succeeded in making my car look just how I wanted.
My first visual impression of the car was great! It was exactly what I wanted. I wanted to eliminate the wheel gap, and also have the car respectfully low. I believe he ended up lowering the car about 1.5” all the way around. I am not sure those were the exact measurements or not, but I am assuming it was something close to that.

I had to drive from Fresno back to Sacramento that night, and I knew I was going to get to test out first- hand how well it drove and handled. I also had my fiancé with me on the drive back home and she was scared that we were getting a product that might break down on us and we would crash and die (she’s a little paranoid). However, as we started driving, we couldn’t tell the difference from the stock suspension and the new one. Every corner hugged ever-so perfectly. Mind you this is an entry-level setup. I wasn’t expecting much at all, but Glen and the Solo-werks product exceeded my expectations and I am very thankful that I was able to get the opportunity to test these coilovers out.
One month later, I am still loving the ride that these coilovers give. The bounce is very minimal, and the stiffness when driving is everything that you would expect from a higher dollar suspension kit. Not to mention, the look of my car is just what I had in mind when I decided I wanted to lower it in the first place. Props to Solo-Werks and Glen Messinger!

Here are some good pics for you guys! any questions glen will have to answer them they have all the specs.

And this is what I drive on a day to day basis:

and some more pics thanks guys hope you enjoy.

    good review

Some 18" wheels would close it up a bit more and make it look sexy also

While the eyelids and tail lights are a not my cup of tea, the drop looks good and I'm glad to hear you like the performance of these coils.

Next stop... 18's and spacers... You're car is begging for them!

Your DD height is spot on man.

Wheels make or brake a car (if done correctly, even more-so than the actual ride height), I don't care what anyone says. Think about it...

Can't wait to see where you take the car from here.

    Hey Everyone,

I will be posting up the min max measurements of mktrek's installation on the weekend, as well as images of the kit, the setup, and alignment specs at the max and DD level.

This kit is a final pre production unit that Solo Werks sent us to evaluate with the help of mktrek, but it is 99% finalized, with the only change to be the heavy Gold galvanized coating which is currently Silver on mktrek's front struts.

We are anticipating that these will be in stock and shipping by the end of January 2012.

    Thanks!

This is jordan glen. When cutting this piece you place it through the shock rod? I was also looking at my oem suspension still hanging around my garage just out of curiosity does this bump stop do the same thing as the oem sleeves dont know if that sounds dumb but i wondered cause they compress and absorb a bit

    Hey Jordan,

This piece would go on top of the factory mount, between the mount and the body like this:

And no, the OEM Sleeves are the Dust Boots, which are too large to fit in the Solo's springs.

The OEM bumpstops are inside your kit

Considering purchasing a set of these coilovers; I have an 07 GTI with stock 17" wheels and tire size. Will I have any issues after installing? I would love a more aggressive look and ride but I really want to avoid any rubbing. Thanks in advance!

With the Stock 17's you will have plenty of clearance, so no issues with rubbing due to the coilovers - but depending on how low you go you may rub on the vw factory plastic during hard turning when you are at the max lowering.

If I were to lower it 1.8-2", what can I do to remedy the rubbing without shaving the inner fender liner? Would I just have to adjust the camber?

At the range you are looking for of 1.8-2" you will be fine - 2.5-2.75" is another matter

    Not to worry
