My MK3 Cabrio VR6 build thread

it will need to get re-cleared in a few months. when the paint was done, it happened to my car and 2 others, something was in the filter system during the spraying of the clear which caused some fish eyes. i was told to drive it for a while and they will sand it and re-clear it later. i'm not worried.

the car also had minor driver front accident damage too, overall, its pretty good though.

got some updates today.
The car was sent back to the shop on Sunday to be kept this week to get the few last bugs worked out.

there was a short in the system that allowed the windows to work with the interior buttons. so the dash was pulled and within a few minutes the short was found and all was fixed. this also cured the reverse lights not working syndrome i was having.

the radio now works when the headlights are off (cabrio had it wired to the DRL wire which was odd).
All of the speakers work and operate correctly now.
the door cards are attached with brand new hardware from the dealership.
new strut mounts are being installed tomorrow, and the new SMOKED turns/fogs are being installed tomorrow too to match the headlights better.

I am getting a few newer interior bits in the mail next week. these will fix my busted up center console, missing door speaker grills, and two pieces for the lower rear where the carpet meets the rear side panels.

then it will be ready for the guy from Eurotuner to fly in next Friday to do a photo shoot for the car.

this weekend was a great one.

the work started on Friday with finishing up the interior bits and pieces and a few other odds and ends. We urethaned the side skirts so they are a perfect fitment with the body, got the driver side rear molding to finally adhere with a little help from a heat gun, new clips, and some body tape.

i got the new rear portion of the console installed with a perfect lid and cupholder section, black front door speaker grills, installed the new e-brake boot, and painted a bunch of beige seat trim pieces black.

Friday night the Editor for eurotuner.com and european car flew in to Phoenix and met up with me and a ton of others on Saturday night for a weekly car show in Phoenix. I think we had around 40 VW/Audi's show up for a wonderful turnout and some gorgeous cars.
Sunday after work we met the editor, Ezekiel Wheeler, at a local baseball complex with great mountains around it, and did the photo shoot there. after he was finished with my car he also shot a local MKV Rabbit in satin army green, crazy low static stance, and C2 motorsports turbo kit.

the top is the original hard plastic vinyl top that was filthy. there aren't any rips in it. so to make it look nice, after washing it sprayed silicone in small areas, let it sit for 5 minutes or so, then wiped it down. moved on to the next area etc.. until the full top was done.
now the top looks brand new and shiny, and a much nicer look IMO than the grey cloth top i was going to put on the car.
it's a temporary fix for a nasty top until a new black top could be installed in the future.

Not doing door cards. It would take away from the look I wanted which was just the seats to stand out and not be bombarded with areas of color all over.

got some new adapters for the front wheels today from Adaptec Speedware. the ones i had were old and no name and caused a bad vibration at highway speeds. Adaptec had these to me within the week and are gorgeously made. installed them, drove, then re-torqued, the car drives glass smooth on the highway now at 75mph. very happy about this since i will be driving to Cali next weekend for Oktoberfest @ Big Bear.

Id rather have an OBD2 VR with 280K for half the price then an OBD1 VR that's high compression that you cant force feed but that's just me. It's only about $400 in parts to rebuild a VR and a couple hundred bucks in clean up at a machine shop.
