I think Tuna Canyon is overrated. The road doesn't have a nice rhythm, a lot of the corners are too tight and slow often with loose gravel, it's bumpy in places and despite being one way, people will go up the wrong way. On top of that, it arguably has the most dangerous drop offs of all the canyon roads, you won't be found if you go off, and there is no cell service on the road.
Oh yah. Los Flores. I know where to turn off of PCH so I'm good either way

Try Midway in Santa Monica or Budget in Marina Del Rey. Back in 2001 we rented a total of 5 MR2 Spyders between those two places and then took them to a track day. We've rented other cool stuff from them as well. Some of the Enterprise locations used to rent Lotus Elise's but haven't seen them advertising that for a while.

Passenger is Joe - the Sales Director from McLaren Beverly Hills. He hasn't mentioned any famous clients yet other than Leno.

My invite hasn't arrived - who's doing it and where abouts will it be? The Beverly Hills crew takes good care of me but I barely know Pietro and Nick from Newport Beach.

No clue if this is the same white miata? Fast forward till the last 10seconds. Looks like the chp scared him?

If you read the video comments, they were aware of the CHP.. Not sure if same car, looks very similar. I can see the fender extensions / flares ..

When is the next TCL canyon run/mass casualty event?

Seems to be a big mystery about the Miata, wonder where the rest of the footage is?

You can get them right off his flickr account. But if you want it without the watermark, you contact him and buy it.

You'll find the last TCL GTG on 9/25/2010 here:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/capfacs...7624923794659/

Here's the truck tackling the snake. I was a few minutes behind the rest of TCL because I got stuck in the middle of all the MGs who decided to group up before climbing the hill so that their photos would all be in succession.

Anyone else notice on that video, that the Miata isn't showing a front plate at first, then the momentum makes it swing out? (looks like it starts with a 6?)

All this recent talk and footage has made me decide to go this coming weekend, preferably on Saturday when it's a little less crowded and cooler, but I could do Sunday also.

It's probably a bit of a late notice but I'm down to cruise in my GTI; don't wanna hold people up with the Spider.

    Anyone else seriously considering it?

I think it's just the whole zoo-like atmosphere that makes me LOL a little. It reminds me how people here go nuts over driving 20mph behind a minivan while dodging mountain bikes on highway 9.

Not that both aren't amazing roads, but the spectacle surrounding them is a bit much and kind of takes away a lot of what I enjoy about twisties - solitude, fluidity, peace, etc. But I guess every region needs it's tourist road.

That's why when I drive 9, I wait till the middle of the night.

I was leaving Los Alto's Rod and Gun awhile ago with g/f, and I was driving down Page Mill as we wanted to stop by Stanford and get some Ikes Place sandwiches. I commented on how pretty the view is, and how I never get to see it. She asked me if I drove the road often, and my comment was yes, but in the middle of the night, at three times this speed.

I won't quote the pics but Peloton, thank you for the reminder of Decker. I loved driving that road, especially after a stressful day at work. I worked right near Westlake Blvd and lived in Camarillo so I could take Decker to PCH and then PCH up to Lewis Rd. Ahhh memories!

Check out this footage from the Elvis Presley movie "Spinout" from 1966. At 2:22 into it where I have conveniently started the playback they come up The Snake - crazy cool to see the road from nearly 50 years ago.

You're absolutely right. It's a vapid cesspool of soulless ego stroking. If you really want to enjoy the drive, don't go on weekends, and/or don't go there specifically.

For some, it's neat to have the moment captured I guess. You see others that go every weekend to see and be seen. Might be fun to kick back and watch the show once in a while.

I had forgot all about it during the gtg and it wasn't till I saw the sign posted "cameraman in apex" that I realized it. It's the only time I've ever been photographed there, as I do most of my driving at night or during the week when I'm hoping for less traffic. (I like doing midnight runs - canyons are best in the Miata- and can get pretty far from home without realizing it.)

Ooh Vintage snake- awesome! There another thread lurking around here/archives? Of that Porsche 911 RSR? That has a video with some vintage footage as well.

It does in fact, but I already have a guest. Sorry buddy!

He's so crazy about McLaren's that he actually purchased one of those $5,000 McLaren F1 LM models from Amalgam Models in the UK for his collection.

Here it is pictured with a couple of 1/18th scales and a 1/12th scale in red for comparison. It makes the smaller scaled cars look like 1/43rd scale instead.
