Is it capable? I have the 1st gen oooold dinosaur PS3, but I'm pretty sure it runs the same firmware as the newest PS3.

I've read differing opinions... So does anyone know for sure if my PS3 will be able to play 3D movies on this new LED 3D Samsung I bought?

I've played 3D DVD's on my 10 year old DVD player, so I don't see why a BD player would be any different

    Yes.

There was a firmware update a while back that enabled the PS3 to play 3d content.

As long as your PS3 firmware is current, you should be good.

    Here's a quick how-to.

So if updated, a PS3 should be fine. I read on some other forum, people talking about a 1.4 HDMI cable or something that is needed.

...isn't HDMI a digital signal so it is pretty much either there or not? Sorry if that sounds stupid

Newer cables have a higher communications speed IIRC and why you need them to do 3D

As has been said- yes, the PS3 can play 3D blu-rays. Just make sure its updated.

Also make sure your HDMI cables are 1.4 compliant. They are only a few bucks at monoprice.

HDMI cables are no longer rated based on the HDMI specification they were designed to meet.. instead, they are broken down into High Speed and Standard Speed.

For 3D 1080p, you need High Speed rated cables.
