So is the consensus that they're not the same as the leather seats in the GTI? The GM for the dealership I deal with sat in one at one of their conventions, and he said he thought they felt a lot better, but they didn't have a GTI there for comparison.

Can someone who has already taken delivery check the functionality of the ESP system please?

Press once to disable ASR, but ESP remains on?
Press and Hold to fully disable ESP?
Or is ESP not fully defeatable?

I've never sat in a Mk6 GTI so I'm not sure but I can tell you that these impressed me a lot.

Has anyone tried to price out a golf R front bumper conversion now that the car is available in the US?

Seats are different, at least different from my '10 GTI. The are more "cushy"...hold you better in the turns. I do like them better.

I would like to see the center stack (radio, climate controls, etc..) on a base model R (no Nav) if anyone has a pic, or can get one.

    Thx,
    Eric

I think it's your fat ass haha...mine is an Autobahn so it's factory leather. Maybe they changed the foam but what I really meant was that the seats are the same same design, lines, style......etc as the GTI with factory leather.

If you have a chance can you check the details regarding that ASR/ESP button?

Wow!!!!!!!!!!! That's one fine car... Well? How does it feel compared to the MkVI GTi? How's the clutch... any tighter, does it grab in the same place as the GTI? Wheel gap looks a little higher than the Euro versions but I may be wrong... What about the new transfer case.... how does it feel overall in comparison?

PS: Thanks for the ... very jealous... indeed.

    Possession has been granted....

We took it for a somewhat spirited test drive tonight and I must confess that I do indeed love this car.

Candy white, 2 door, base. Loved everything about the car, except for the fact that it wasn't mine. It had Pirellis too.

Talked with the sales manager and he told me that they were asking straight MSRP plus dealer fees. Flow VW. Sales manager's name is Richard.

I've only been able to drive in Boston traffic. I'll report back once I get to open it up.

    Initial impressions....

Even though the R isn't a V6, the exhaust is really throaty, I'm really happy with the sound. Now if I can only get it to gurgle like my '04! The engine and exhaust are noticeably louder in the cabin that my '10 GTI.

The clutch has a similar feel to my GTI, one difference is the addition of the hill holder, it was really weird the first time it kicked in.

For me, it seems that the shift points are a little different than the GTI, so will just need to take some getting used to. But the acceleration is noticeably quicker, and the throttle response is almost surprising. I almost clipped a car when I was changing lanes, I wasn't expecting the sudden increase in speed.

Grip was great in the one corner I got to fling it around today.

It really reminds me of my '04 R32, which is still the best car I've owned up until now.
