I'm hopeful that I will be satisfied with this car. My last car was a 2002 Porsche 911 C4S. I'm hoping that some massaging will bring some 911-like performance but I'm extremely dubious.

I have been somewhat concerned about some of the things I have been reading in the thread about holes being drilled through the front fascia, a car being slammed off the hauler, double-digit miles on pre-ordered vehicles where a deposit was made and last, but not least, the cheap appearance of the unpainted engine bay. Even my father's Jetta TDI wagon engine bay has a nice body-matched finish.

Finally, I'm a little disappointed to hear that I'll be getting my car (probably) in June while those that are waiting just a little longer are apparently receiving 2013 models. In theory, they are the same car, right? Might there be some mfg. revisions/differences? All things created equal, I would imagine a 2012 MY would have a poorer resale than a 2013.

I hope my concerns will be erased when I drive this car. I'll update this post when I know something.

Sorry to disappoint but you won't be seeing 911 performance out of this car without spending tons on it. That being said, this car is all the car you'll ever need. It is a perfect blend of excellent handling, speed, practicality, luxury and grip in adverse conditions. I'm totally in love with it as most of us are.

Agreed. I had to get white. I think it is by far the best color for this car personally.

A friend works at Vista VW in Pompano. Told him I was interested in a Golf R, so his dealership traded for one from a dealership in Fort Myers.

Took delivery of my 4-door CSGM Golf R with Sunroof & Nav on 05/26/2012.

    (newbie alert, first post)

I picked up my R on May 7th, after waiting nearly four months. I fell in love with it immediately, but really had my first non commute/grocery fun with it just this week when I drove down a section of Skyline Drive with my wife. We were going to do the whole 105 miles of twisty goodness, but she got motion sick from all the quick turns. Heh, my bad. She does giggle like a schoolgirl when I really open the speed up, so it's not all bad. She's also really jealous of the dual-zone climate control, and wishes it was available in her Mini.

It really is a great car. I've had two friend make positive comparisons to BMW when giving their impression of it.

No mods yet... I'll be putting under-seat drawers in any day now and will probably go stage 1 flash and euro tails sometime in the next year. Nothing crazy... or at least that's what I'm saying right now.

Picked mine up on Saturday. Decided not to take delivery of the 4-door CW I ordered last year for a Jan arrival. Decided to keep my 2009 Genesis Sedan V8 as my "grown up" car and get a gray 2 door R as my "fun" car

Worked out well in the end, because I got a great deal @$35,029.00 for a loaded 2 door.

    Very happy!

I don't expect 911 performance by any means but I'm hoping that with an intake, exhaust and 93 octane tune I will get some jolt out of it. I'll reserve judgment on suspension until I've actually driven one.

Stock numbers I'm seeing are about the same as my 2003 Honda Accord 6MT while costing lots more and getting poorer fuel economy. Sure, the tech is more advanced and the AWD is a big plus but I'm power hungry. Unfortunately, my wallet is smaller than my appetite for power and speed.

Ouch. I ordered mine (4 door w/tech) in early March and picked it up mid May.

Yet it's taking them over 8 months to fill? I'm not calling you a liar but something is wrong there. Either they didn't put your order in when you submitted it or they lied to you about you being their first allotment. Dealers should have been getting their first allotment in between January and March.

back in march i happened to see a new R at a VW dealership, rolled up to it in my old car and ended up test driving it and fell in love. Traded in my 04 R32 for my 2 dr base CW R. waited around a month for it to get delivered... i felt like a kid tracking santa on xmas eve...

    New R:

    she will be missed...

Thanks. I ordered mine in Sept. and I finally got it a couple weeks ago. I went to Findlay North and had an awful experience there. I'd be curious to hear how your experience goes with Findlay Henderson.

    Hey,

I got my Golf R a couple of weeks ago, it wasn't an ordered one; it was more like a hunting expedition. I bought it from a dealer in NJ off the showroom floor. They had two I test drove the Grey one but I really wanted one in Candy White, no luck in finding one that wasn't already sold...So I bought the Rising Blue. It's the official family car too, my son loves riding in it as much as I love driving it.

I love it! Not too happy with the dealer after I told them twice not to drill the front bumper and they ended up doing it anyway.

I should preface this whole story with the fact I'm an offroad guy. My first car was a 86 Jetta GLI that my dad gave to me when I turned 17, it had 290k on the clock. It died my second year of college with 385k on it. I loved that car. I currently own a supercharged, regeared to 4.88 97 Land Cruiser on 37's and a Lexus GX 460 that's like none you've ever seen.
My dream car many moons ago was the Touareg. I loved the looks or that truck ever since I first laid my eyes on it in a magazine when it won "Off roader of the year" in 2004. Fast forward 2 years and I picked up my dream truck, a used 04 V8 with just 17k miles. It was the most expensive car I'd ever bought, $26k. I absolutely loved that truck.
Just last week I traded in my beloved Touareg for a used 600 mile R. I was dreading the fact I was trading in my favorite car to drive for something sensible, until I took the R for a test drive. I drove many cars while searching for the Treg replacement, from used M3s to used 135is to new Mini Countrymans to Lexus IS250s. While the bimmers were fun to drive, they are a dime a dozen here in the "whales vagina", I'm not that guy. The countryman was fun to drive but I'm not a hipster and the IS250 didn't allow enough headroom for my 6'4" frame and was utterly gutless. After chatting with a good friend about what to buy, he pointed me in the direction of the GTI. Now if you knew this guy, you'd know he is a driver. When I met him he had a modded out S4 and before that he had a GTI, now he owns a Cayman S. To further elaborate on his "fun to drive" influence on me, he won San Diego's PCS autocross "rookie of the year" last year, so I value his opinion. When he said go drive a GTI, I did. And then I saw an R in the Escondido showroom and fell in love with looks. I had no idea how much fun factor was involved with this wolf in sheep's clothing.
I'm extremely happy with this purchase and have already pulled the trigger on APR's ECU upgrade.... what a difference! I foresee a laundry list of mods just like my 97 TLC.
I'd post some pics but I haven't figured out how...
