BTW were did you get those cups!? I never knew you made those. Totally cool.

i would think people would want to try and convoy on thursday rather than friday to try and avoid traffic. how is traffic through oregon leading up to labor day weekend? i would figure portland and then down closer to mt shasta would be busy. from vacaville to san fran is always busy.

i may be down to go, we were talking about going to h2o this year but ....

this is assuming people who are driving down can get off work before the weekend.

My current schedule has my weekend starting on Thursday anyway, but that'd still mean spending more money on hotel costs if I left that early.

Im hoping to get this scheduled in. If go, Im actually going to leave around 8-9 pm thursday, and drive over night. It takes a bit of off the drive, and there is no traffic coming in to SF. I like the night drive down.

You sir are smart, didnt think of that. I took friday off and I am off at 5 on thursday so maybe I will leave thursday night not friday morning. If I leave the tacoma area around 7 that puts me down there by about 8am or 9am on friday.

Ideally I would like to drive down Thursday and come back Tuesday but unfortunately I don't have the cash flow for that. I figure if I leave early enough Friday morning I should miss some of the traffic and then take the bypass around Portland. Coming back Monday will be a whole new story.

I was just down there in October... drove around San Francisco a bunch. The only real problem I had with driving around that city was the hills and the traffic (and the constant honking ). I'd say that poor roads won't be any worse than what you're used to up in the PNW. It varies by city, of course. Our roads have the added benefit of seeing frozen water every winter though... I can't imagine it's any worse down there.

Some truth...Some of the freeways can be real bad. For the most part they are actually pretty good

The areas in San Fransisco that I drove in didn't seem too horrible. But the hills there are very steep so that part of it might not be low car friendly. I was driving my friend's camry around town so I didn't have to worry about being low.

Maybe not the roads in town, but lets just say the road will tell you exactly when you are in California. If you have coils and you roll low, you may want to think about raising it up just a tad for the trip.

There is one stretch of road (Hwy 80) between I-5 and Oakland that is really bad. The road has large expansion joins every 15 ft for something like 30+ miles.
