Here is the standard XTS interior (same cluster as the one in the ATS):

Here is an XTS equipped with premium or platinum packages:

It is my opinion that a similar reconfigurable (and much more aesthetically pleasing) instrument panel should be an option on the ATS as well. However, the simple gauges alone wouldn't stop me from owning this car.
then it is safe to assume like you said that the reconfigurable unit should be optional. I want to see the center stack on the ATS without CUE though. I remember there was one pic floating around out there.

To stir the pot again about the gauge cluster: Here is a pic from i think the Chicago Autoshow of the gauge cluster turned on.

Much nicer than the earlier pics would indicate.

Okay, now that The Car Lounge is okay with the gauge cluster, what's next on the list of minutae as to why the car fails? I bet the carpet in the trunk is hard and shiny.

      Shiny trunk carpet fail!

These types of cars don't matter about performance. As long as it is ok.
Ÿ this car is world class and will beat down the 3 series, A4, C-class etc!

My E90 is back from it's 2 week vacation at the dealer... so that's a total of 4 weeks out of service since I bought it (Used/CPO) in August...

*Please* be good ATS, I'm counting on you!!!

Finally a cluster I can get excited about. I now have cluster envy.

Now, about that carpet in the trunk, is it plush?

In person, I quite liked the ATS. It looked right sized. And much better than the new BMW 3 series. IMO.

The XTS was okay, but reminded me of a Buick flagship too much. Completely different type of customer.

Does the trunk have hinges or goose necks? That's the true measure of a quality car.

As facetious as you're being, I actually hold hinges vs. goose necks as a pretty big indicator of "how much of a f*ck did they give in designing this automobile". Goose necks are lazy and needlessly rob a good deal of trunk space, not to mention they just look cheap. It's neither hard nor expensive to get a good set hinges on there and there are plenty of affordable cars that prove that point.

I disagree with you on all points. As a matter of fact, you'll notice that most of the D-class luxury cars have switched back to goose neck hinges after at least one generation of the complex hinges. I think their approach works just fine.
