The dialogue can get cheesy at times but I still really dig the show. The first episode is awesome. I'm still a bit lost since I don't remember why Hank went to NYC and don't know when Karen hooked up with another dude.

    Also, Meagan Good

I am glad it's January and Californication is back on. I can't believe it's been 2 years and Karen is with that crazy professor.

Watched it last night. Let me preface this by saying... this is one of my favorite shows on TV. ...but the new season opener came off as kind of lazy if you ask me. At the end of last season, they leave you with Hank leaving LA for NY... his personal life is in shambles... you dont know whats going to happen with Runkle/Marcy/Kid ....and the writers basically just tied off all of those storylines by explaining them away with a 2 or 3 year passage of time. Pretty disappointing if you ask me. I really wanted to see them play that all out. Now they're rehashing the Hank works for a rock star (rapper) storyline. The chick he met on the plane is smokin though.

The writing has gotten lazy, predictable. I don't know that many white people that talk like black people.

I wonder if Runkle's going to hook up with the nanny he is trying to hire.

The way this show works, any female crossing Runkle's path will either hook up with him or simply see his willy.

The show has always been a bit absurd so there's never been a need for "extra" creativity on the part of the writers to keep my attention. Even if this season is a repeat of the Lew Ashby season, I will watch and enjoy every episode.

Runkle is pulling a Johnny Drama and stealing the show.

To that point, it might have been better to have at least most of season 5 take place in NY...where Hank burns more bridges only to have to move back to LA. The opening scene in NY and Runkle calling him back would have been a perfect ending to the Season.

That said, the show lives on the dynamics of Hank, Runkle, Marcy, Karen and Becca. With Hank in NY and everyone else in LA, there is essentially no story. There needs to be a connection between them, and doing it over the phone might not have worked. But having Runkle & Jr. come visit Hank in NY, or Karen & Becca visiting, you probably could have made it work creatively.

Getting Hank back to LA so early was the easy way out - they should have tried to make NY work...unless he is going back now, after his apartment was torched.

Runkle really is stealing the season. I find my attention wandering during this show now though.

Runkle steals the episode once again. I can't imagine keeping wood w/ a chick talking in a fake accent, lol Loved the dinner party scene. It reminded me of Curb your Enthusiasm when you can tell something has been ad-libbed and someone's trying not to laugh.
