That said, since the purchase, they're all VWs now so any argument is pedantic at best. Swap and build, there's nothing holding anyone back!
Rohar, you're an idiot. And Brad: Sorry about messing up your thread about butchering a 964. But someone was throwing all sorts of made up **** out there and I hate bull****ting ******s who post just to see themselves talk.
BTW I want to wish you luck in not spinning this car into a wall or off a cliff once its done.
Hey Brad. At your rate you're gonna finish this thing about the same time I am. We're only about 1200 miles apart and both stuffing VAG engines in porsches. Wanna find a track somewhere between here and there and see what we did? Could be a hell of a time and depending on the track I might cover the costs. I'd gladly invite the naysayers if they put their titles on the line
Looking forward to seeing this Brad, i've seen some of your other vehicles at other various shows, WBTB, DubDash, Midwest Volksfest. should be fun and fast as hell
thanks dude. now i found the gates hose but only in 3 ft lengths. i would like the hose to run the length of the car. 19x22x3 radiator with dual pulling fans is what im going with along with summits high flow water pump. works for all the ls guys, i see know issues. now i just need the adapter plate to get here so i can start mocking up the engine bay.
Renegade has the gates hose in 24' lots for $120. 12' on each side. It's on their web site and everything. I've yet to find it at that price anywhere else. If you need longer runs, give them a holler, they'll be happy to help. Anything bigger than 3/4" should be fine.
Porsche parade is in Salt Lake this year, your schedule gonna get you finished by then? I'm pushing like hell to make it.
mine will be done in a couple months. i've looked twice on renegades site and havent seen it.
Sneaky buggers hid it. If you click Alum LS series V8 under 914 home it shows up under Optional Parts "RADIATOR HOSE KIT".
Oh, and I'd definitely think about hitting the parade in July. We've got plenty of time to get the cars together and you'll meet some of the most amazing car guys ever. I'd pay good money to see a purist's face when you pop that engine cover.
For me, the Chump 24 is the week after so I'm gonna be beat by August.
i spend most of my time on the east coast but will be out west for pikes peak and wuste.
Bilsteins showed up. waiting on radiator, gates hose and a electric water pump. hopefully show up tomorrow and i can get the cooling system completed.
Now that the parts are coming, the best advice I can give is pay a LOT of attention to sheeting between the radiator and the intake hole. Don't let any air out. Lots of time with cardboard patterns helps. That and something to seal the joints. Thick weatherstripping is cheep and works well.
Oh, and if you don't make it to the PP this year, there's always next year!
what a pain in the ass ripping all this out. almost all electrical is out of the car. axles showed up today, kennedy adapter should be hear tomorrow with trans on friday.
Agreed. Total PITA. On the subject, these work amazing for removing that damned tar sound deadening from the floor pans:
Put your ear muffs on and go at it. Loud as hell but I can clear a 911 in about an hour. Beats the hell out of the old torch/scraper method.
Ohh this is aSUPER cool build
I've had so many VR's I've driven 964's this is going to sound willlld! I'm following this thread everyday from now on!
Good on you mate for doing something totally different!
time for brakes and suspension.
picked these up yesterday. need to swap out these ugly ass bolts tho
You're right, those bolts are hideous. Time to head to the fastener shop.
radiator fits like butter. couldnt be more pleased with the way it'll sit. removed all the a/c lines and trans cooler lines today as well.
