      Good one!!!

I know it's a stupid question, but this is the first car I have ever seen without a fuse diagram. I've been Googling, searching threads and calling dealerships. Nothing yet.

I like you am still yet to find one as well. Very annoying not knowing what all those fuses are for.

I recently blew a fuse doing an HID retrofit and ended up buying a multi-meter at home depot to test all the fuses. It only took 2 minutes to check all the fuses after I got the multi-meter but it set me back $40.00

I can tell you where the high and low beam fuses are if that's what you're looking for (they're 15A fuses).

Wow - that would be cool if you could help. I think that I was able to locate the a 10 amp fuse for the Right Steering Column (fuse #10). I'm hoping that one would be safe to use via a fuse tap.

A side note - VW is REALLY big (surprise) about keeping what powers the fuses a big secret. In one case I called a dealership in Kentucky and they told me that tapping into a fuse could cause serious problems. Granted, I'm not a mechanic but it's only a radar detector.

That seems a little extreme to buy a multi-meter, I just got a fuse tester that lights up when you touch both ends of a working fuse.

      Look here.
Click the BLUE download button 2/3 down the page.
      For 2011 Jetta
2011 and 2012 service diagrams for fuses are identical, not sure if actual vehicle fuse configurations are identical however.

Just did this on our new '12 Jetta TDI. I'd use the 12V socket fuse #30, 6th slot from left on top row at the dashpanel location. It's a 20A.

Fuse taps are ok when used properly. The risk with the ones that slide over the leg of one fuse comes from folks putting them on the supply side of the fuse, and then not separately fusing the new circuit. Something goes wrong in that case, and you have crispy car. Put it on the load side, fuse the new circuit and make sure the female blade connector you use is insulated so the live blade is completely covered. Couple bucks gets you a 4 pack usually.

The other add-a-circuit types are ok, and you don't risk widening the clip in your fuseblock trying to jam more stuff in there. Still try and make sure the new circuit gets added on the load side. I found these are $5-6 each.

When I add a bunch of equipment, i'll do fancier wiring, but for just hardwiring a radar detector both of them are acceptable IMO.

      Sorry - I'm not using a fuse tap, I'm using the Add-a-circuit.

It states on the back of the box for it that you cannot exceed 10 AMPS. I was going to place it into the fuse for the 12V, though it's more than 10 AMPS. I even called the radar detector manufacturer and they said not to exceed 10.

I have found that fuse #6 (first 10amp)...is for the interior map / dome lights.

Yes, that is 100% correct though those still have power after the car is turned off, right? If that is the case then unfortunately it won't work. I need a fuse that cuts power once the car is off.

I'm thinking about trying the fuse for the right steering toggle switch (i.e. - the switch that controls the wipers). It's 10 AMP and it cuts power when the car is off.

If you are using an add-a-circuit, you are putting a 10A fuse on for the detector anyway - i'd still suggest using the 12V socket circuit. If something goes awry with your detector in your scenario, it draws 10A there's no guarantee which of your 10A fuses it will pop. In mine, the 10A pops and the 20A and your 12V sockets are still runnning. Just sayin'.
