We've all got those questions where the answers seem so obvious, but you just can't be sure that you're actually right. So in an effort to keep these questions from creating pages full of stupid question threads in the forum, just ask them in here. If you know the answer, quote the question in your response.

In addition, if you need to search this thread for something asked within it without searching the entire forum, you can do so at the top of this post:

And to start, what exactly does the regen cycle on the new CR TDI engines do? I've always stuck to working on the old ALH / BEQ diesels, so the newer ones are more of a mystery to me than the older ones.

Where is the OEM tow hook supposed to go? It seems like this car has clips and slots for everything (coins, pen, and insurance card in the glove box - hazard triangle in the trunk). I haven't been able to figure out where VW wants me to keep the tow hook, and right now its just rolling around the trunk, which seems very un-German.

Should be a spot for it in the spare tire tool tray under the trunk floor.

    Cheers.

Looks like I already have a tow hook in there. The second tow hook, monster mats, and front plate holder were all just loose in the trunk.

once you remove the plate you should see three plastic rivets holding the bracket on
    [IMG]IMG_0222[1][/IMG]

using a punch or a small screwdriver push the center portion all the way through the bumper.

    [IMG]IMG_0223[1][/IMG]

once youve done all three the bracket should just pull off. the rivets can be re-used if your able to find the center portions. to retrieve from inside the bumper try taking out a few of the t25 screws underneath the car, pull down on the bumper, shake, and hope they fall out on the ground.

US quarters appears to be the winner

    [IMG]IMG_0224[1][/IMG]

also state farm insurance cards and pens fit perfect in those other holders

sometimes i use a leafblower to get all the water out of the cracks and crevices and then follow up with a microfiber drying towel

Awesome thread, felt stupid posting this. Can someone post a
Pic of the gas cap when removed for fueling and mounted in the
gas cap holder? Either mine is broken or I'm retarded.

Be very careful. If there is anything on the paint surface, it'll scratch. Saw it all the time as a professional detailer after people used those on their cars.

soot (black smoke you see on old diesel) gets trapped into the particulate filter right after the turbo. as more soot gets trapped into the filter it becomes filled (clogged) there are two pressure differential sensors on before and one after the DPF to determine exactly how full it is.
so in order to empty the filter, the vehicle goes into a regen mode which is done at highway speeds. on this engine i believe a late fuel injection cycle is fired into the combustion chamber to super heat the dpf and burn off all soot inside. and it gets really really ****ing hot!
so thats why all new diesel exhaust tips with a dpf system are clean! no carbon, no soot.

also these engines are meant to be driven not over idled or city driving. they need a good highway blast to clean the filter out. if not than they will eventually clog the dpf and thats big money to replace.

If the spring rates are similar, you should be okay. Just watch your adjustments.

What colour wheels will work best with a Tempest Blue Metallic Jetta?

I can't deside between Gunmetal, bronze and mirror face like TSW Nurburgrings which come in each.
The tempest blue pics I have seen online all seem to look so different it's hard to decide what colour wheels work best.

Gunmetal or mirror face. In fact, Karl (Squirrel Nuts) is selling his with tires. Wheels and tires are both in great shape. See here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...ings-18x8-et45

I never leave change in those. From my experiences, if the car gets broken into, that's one of the first things taken. Usually I leave a few bucks in quarters in the spare tire toolkit in a ziploc bag for if I ever need to park at a meter.

Silver is safer, plus you'll have less chance of buyers remorse after the fact. Gold at first was striking, but i fear it could get old fast. gun metal?..IMO..why bother?

I sometimes wonder if the mirror polish (silver) looks too chromish and overly blingy hence my fascination with gunmetal and bronze.

I've seen them in person. They look like a nice polished aluminium finish. Not too "chromish" at all.

So how hard do y'all think a GLI IRS swap into a twist-beam Jetta could be? I'm debating looking into it just to see if it'd be worth it, cost-wise.

kinda hard to see on a black car though
Just tried it. YES! That is it.

OK now for another stupid one.... When it is cold out, the display will automatically beep and change to the flashing temperature with the snowflake. Irritating...

But today, I was driving on the freeway, going about 67 in a 65. The display beeped and flashed the mph, like the snoflake. DOES THIS CAR WARN YOU ABOUT SPEED? I will be so irritated if it does!!!

There is a way to change the speed at which the speed warning comes up. It is in the options in the MFD.
