When San Francisco Police Department DET. REBECCA MADSEN (Sarah Jones) is assigned to a grisly homicide case, a fingerprint leads her to a seemingly impossible suspect: JACK SYLVANE (guest star Jeffrey Pierce), an Alcatraz inmate who died over 30 years ago. Given her family history – both her grandfather and surrogate uncle, RAY ARCHER (Robert Forster), were guards at the prison – Madsen’s interest is immediately piqued. When the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent EMERSON HAUSER (Sam Neill) tries to impede her investigation, she becomes doggedly committed to it.

I'm looking forward to this show. The actress is pretty cute. She was in the 2nd season of Sons of Anarchy until she got shot.

Liking it so far. The premise is a little gimmicky, but a neat twist on the cop drama. I'm optimistic.

I watched it for whatever reason. I kinda liked it. It seems very derivative but enjoyable. I'll probably forget to watch the show after a month or so but whatever.

I really liked it. I still need to finish the second half of the 2nd episode.

It shows promise, but there were some weak plot points that need to be remedied. For instance (spoilers):

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
The climax at the top of the building with the sniper was too contrived. Why didn't she just shoot him in the ass? All that business about running around the other side of the building and distracting him and then tackling him, etc... I thought it was silly.

And rendering out the buildings in the CG map? They just happened to find a photo from 1960 taken from the same vantage point? And redid the map that quickly? No.

But despite all of that, it looks like it has some good ideas and I'm willing to stick it out for a few more episodes. It's better than Grimm - the comparison being another supernatural police procedural.

I liked the first ep. Good cast, interesting premise. It could get routine pretty quick but all the cop procedurals do no matter the premise (Grimm is a notable recent example).

Just noticed Parminder Nagra is on it, I dig her.

    Watching ep 2 now (Hulu)

    Just finished Ep2.

The Crime solving is pretty straightforward, it's the backstory that will keep this show afloat. And I'm definitley intrigued bout that.

There's a big reveal at the end of ep2.

It has potential... and it's better than Undercovers.

The back story is interesting - I just hope they weren't on an island somewhere. Oh wait.

Is Sam Neil's charcter, the FBI agent, one of the guards that found the place empty in 1963?

How old is he/should he be?

Hed be a lot older... though if he was involved, it doesnt seem like he would age (just like Gupta). It does seem like it will be a criminal of the week formula. I just hope they weave in enough of the disappearance back story every week to keep it fresh.

Looks like that was him in 1963...

It will be interesting to see how this show evolves.

Just saw the most recent ep. I'm going to give it one more week before I give up on it. There are too many stupid contrivances for me to forgive. Like when Sosa saw the guy and the kid in the diner, whatsherface called him... Why did she show up alone? Why didn't she call in the entire friggin Army to take this guy down????

And then in the woods. She had a clear shot and she didn't take it. She just stood there looking like a moron. She looks like Starbuck's younger sister who just isn't as smart or as tough.

Anyone notice the detective's green Mustang?

  31. 01-26-2012 05:24 AM #31
JJ has lost it. This show is a crime show with a terribly contrived sci-fi premise. I only watch it for the cool shots of alcatraz. The blonde isn't too bad, but not enough of a draw for this POS. Are there tons of people watching this? Can't imagine it getting the axe, though it should.

It's not that bad... In fact, it's better than most network shows.

I'm interested to see where it's going.
