Jealous of the picture taking location. Not jealous of where you live. Looks hot and dry. Arizona? Or perhaps California?

My excitement knew no bounds, when I turned the corner and saw the Stargazer Tristar!
Found this old Voodoo, out in the Mojave.

See, decide, attack, reverse.

Yes, Southern California. Ocean is 30 minutes away, barren desert is 45 minutes away and snowy mountains are 30 minutes away. What's not to love?![]()

Which is more expensive to maintain, the Tristar or the MkIII?![]()

Interesting you snapped one of the L-1011. Shot that plane in Mojave last year from a Cessna:

Kick rocks, fella. We are planning a little photoshoot, at the abandoned F-101 soon. Should produce some great pics.

I know of an abandoned B-52 tall tail, in the same area and condition. Only problem is that it's a solid mile into the base line and I was already tempting fate, by going to the Voodoo. (Probably 1/4 mile inside the base.)
#15
There are actually 2 B-52's on the south end of the base. One is blown in half and the other is in about the same condition as the F-101. There is also a B-58 out there. You need a 4WD truck to make it out to the two B-52's. You might make it to the B-58 with a car but good luck. I've been out there a couple of times and it's really no big deal if you remember two things. One don't take anything (signs are posted) and two don't drive on the lakebed. It's one of those thing if you don't start any trouble you wont get into any trouble. There is also some great stuff on the south base ramp but taking pictures there is not a good idea.

^ Awesome man! Yeah, I saw the B58 also. Can I really go out there, without much fuss?!? I actually bought my first 4x4 yesterday! This would be a good reason to drive it! I would NEVER go onto the lake bed, but damn... The B52 tails that I saw looked so sketchy, in terms of getting busted.

Yeah, a little update. I made the hike, over the Edwards security fence, in an attempt to get up close and personal to the B58 and the pair of B52s a few weeks ago...
Walked right up to the B58 (Took about 20 minutes, to my surprise.), was there for about 15 seconds, when I hear "DO NOT MOVE!" And what do ya know?! To my left and to my right are 2 pairs of M4's pointed in my direction! :-) The MPs were pretty friendly, but took my camera for about 20 minutes, I had to give more personal info that could be imagined and was escorted out and told to never return. I was told that I put the entire base on security alert and the commander was not pleased. GOOD TIMES!

Holy hell! Judging by your status as "still alive" I take it you are whiter than white?
Cool pics!

I had so many different pictures I wanted to take of her. I cradled my month old Rebel T3I, like it was a new born. hah My biggest fear was having the MPs bodyslam me and breaking the camera! I am currently emailing the base commander, in an attempt to go back, with permission this time! Wish me luck!
Glad you guys appreciate the limited pics! None of my friends understood why I "had" to go there.

My god, man. You're lucky you didn't come out of there on your back and with a bunch of extra lead in you!
I'm trying to think under what circumstances I could be convinced to climb over a security fence here at the OLF, Oceana, or NSN...and yup...absolutely none come to mind!
You've got some big brass ones!![]()

I find this neither humorous or dedicated. Making a conscious decision to cross illegally onto a military installation is a dumb**** thing to do. I'm not sure if you just have no common sense or what but the amount of work and stress you caused people is pretty ridiculous, all because you wanted a picture of a rotted out bomber.![]()

Not to get all political, but I don't think paying someone to ride around a base perimeter in a jeep all day with no action is "money well spent".

Yeah, I knew full well that it was a "dumb****" thing to do, but that was part of the adventure.I am sure that quite a bit of work goes into a base alert, but it's not like they had to scramble fighters and change DEFCON level... A couple of guards took a walk through the desert, to escort some dumbass kid with a camera off the base. After we spoke for a bit, they were pretty nice guys (In a VERY stern way. hah) Honestly, the few people who have told me that they like the pictures made it all worth it. Out of my system and won't be doing it again... Unless that pair of B52s won't stop calling my name...

When a base goes on alert it's not just a couple of SF dudes who have to march through the desert, it's a serious issue and can end up with people standing on the carpet in front of the Wing commander explaining how and why it happened. It may not change the defcon level, but it can certainly change the base alert level and now every agency and office on base has to implement procedures. This crap is a massive headache for everyone when it happens, not just a couple of dudes who have to "do their job" as the terribly uninformed dude above claimed.
In this case, I know you were out in the middle
Of the desert and it's unlikely it was a huge deal, but it easily could have been depending on what was going on that day at the base/ranges. Keep in mind your name and info was documented, I wouldn't recommend ever doing this again, there may be consequences now that you have been escorted from a facility and warned.
All that said, I do like the pics, just not the methods.
