Thread: I'll draw dimensional comparisons of cars if anyone is interested.

  1. 01-12-2012 10:38 AM #1
In the Encore thread I started making dimensional drawings comparing it to other cars in the market just to get an idea of what the size of this thing really is. Some people seemed interested in comparing various different cars in profile to scale to see just how big/small low/high cars on the road are.

If anyone has requests just post them up and I'll get to them while I'm at work. It makes it alot easier if you include the length and height dimensions in inches and a profile shot of the cars you want compared.

Just some examples if you didn't see. Yes the Encore is pretty darn small as seen in the drawings.

    Pt Cruiser vs Encore

    vs Mini Countryman

    vs Aventador

vs 2 door tracker and lowered Miata

Cool analysis. what about a cross section of the front?

Can you do a comparison of a GTR, Audi R8 and Aventador. The GTR looks so huge alongside the R8. Thanks

    Original 911 vs. 2012 911
    Original GTI vs. 2012 GTI
    Original M3 vs. 2012 M3
    Countach/Miura vs. Aventador/Gallardo

line them up at one of the wheels, not at the front bumper. easier to look at and compare.

Pontiac G8, 2012 Focus (yes, cars I've owned)

I assume you're using wheelbase to calculate dimensions?

    G8: 2913mm wheelbase
    Focus: 2648mm wheelbase

I think it behooves TCL to see the GROWTH TREND of various car classes today.

    Example:
Civic - From original through each new Gen (not including the MCEs/facelifts).
    Accord - Same
    F-150 - Same

I think it would be interesting to see how much they have grown. I think we all know, but I wonder whether we all appreciate the level of increase.

It would certainly be interesting to then compare the largest Civc (today's) with which ever Accord it is equal to.

You're a good man. Thank you.

But you're going to be inundated with crap requests from lots and lots of people, who will suck up all your time for no particular purpose. I guess you knew that when you posted, though...

Count me in amongst that group.

It's like a "taking Photoshop requests" thread.

    I'd like to see:

    1986 Accord vs todays Accord
    179 x 53
    195 x 58

Ford GT40 vs the Ford GT
    160 x 40
    183 x 44

    *edit to add dimensions

I'm doing these in AI at work and it takes about 20 minutes to do each one so it's not going to be a quick turnaround. I'll get to the requests in order as I can. It's going to be a long undertaking but I'll try to do as much as I can just be patient with me

Also the wheels on some of these aren't going to look perfectly round or to scale. This is because I have to scale the wireframes from whatever profile shots I find online. Some are slightly different angles so in order to get the bodies to fit in the correct dimensional bounding box I have to skew them a bit. So just look at the overall body of the car and not the wheels.

Doing these now. Will edit and add as I finish them.

    OG 911 I got 168.9 / 52
    2012 911 177.8 / 51.6

OG 911 might be a bit off I wasn't sure if that big front bumper was US spec and included in the length. It just happened to be the best profile shot I found had that big front bumper.

Can you do the Veyron or EB110 against other supercars? I keep hearing that Bugatti's are very compact in person. I've only seen one Veyron, but it was completely out of context - in an empty parking lot.

It would also be fun to see those against a GTR and Mustang (blue collar sports cars are so huge )

I want to see how a truly small truck compares to a "small" new truck to a third gen fullsize from 25 years ago. compare the long wheelbase luv, should make it more fair.
    131.5" wheelbase

    117.9" wheelbase

I think the height measurement for the newer Mustang is with the top up so it looks a little bit shorter in relation than it is. Although it only has two inches over the fox.

Added EB110 and Veyron to these.

Smallest in length to largest is

    EB110 @ 173.4
    R8 @ 174.6
    Veyron @ 175.7
    GTR @ 183.9
    Lambo @ 188.1

The Aventador while being the longest is also the lowest at 44.7 height. It is one low, wide, long mean mf'er
