Rattles and Vibrations

Is anyone else noticing rattles, squeaks and/or buzzing vibrations?

I have a rattle from the rear driver's side, a vibration from the passenger-side dashboard and a squeak in or near the front passenger seat. I feel like I'm losing my mind!

Anyone else? If so, any resolution?

Yes I had pretty much all of those. My dealer took care of it. Please take the car to the dealer. The one that you can check for is the little plastic trim that covers the wires right above the rear view mirror. The way it vibrates it makes it feel like rattle is coming from multiple locations. You can tap it with your finger and it will rattle on you.

There was also an issue with the headliner in my car right above and behind the driver's seat. Again tap with your fingers and you will hear it.

I also had an issue with rear deck rattling.

the one beside u it could be the cover of the fusebox. Rear.. Check the the tools if they are secured.

What Texas said.. take it to dealer.. had multiple rattles in mine.. they took care of it in about 30 minutes. Smooth and quiet now

I have had a vibration that seems like it is the right passenger side near the fender speaker under the windshield. I thought the windshield was going to shatter and my stereo wasn't even up that loud. This only happens occasionally, more so when it is cold but boy is it annoying. Sometimes I swear the glass vibrates just like the mirrors vibrate from heavy bass. Only thing is, the Fender bass is nothing compared to my Range Rover's Harman Kardon Logic 7 14 speaker system and that one never caused weird vibrations and shakes like this. I'm baffled, but what could this be? The tweeter on the dash? Or perhaps some other piece?

YEP!!!!!on my second trip to the deal with only 3k on the car.....still rattles like an 80's chevy car, Im hoping the 3rd trip will get rid of the remaining rattles. Luckly they are willing to attempt to fix the rattles....

Now if the could just fix the massive amount of road noise in the car all would be ok!

Not to bust the salemans bubble but the more I miles I get the more rattles I get....I was also wishfully hoping the same thing, but no luck!

I lean toward optimism, but I'm struggling a bit in light of these comments. I'm heading to the dealer next week. I'll update everyone after the appointment. Thank you for our feedback and input.

I have a 2.5 SE with about 3500KM on it (Canadian). I've not had a single rattle yet. I do have one issue though - the plastic that lines the front passenger wheel well seems to have bulged (for lack of a better word) toward the bottom behind the tire. This has caused the tire to rub against it when making a hard right turn. I'm guessing some clip has let go or something along those lines. Will be making an appt with the dealer to have it corrected.

Anyone have this happen to their B7?

No rattles yet but had one the other day due to my fault. Forgot to completely lock in the back seat after having it down to carry some stuff from Costco. It rattled slightly over bumps and fixed when I full locked the seat back into position.

I have a rattle on the front passenger door. I can push at the bottom of the door and it will stop but I admit it is very annoying. I plan on getting it resolved with my 90 day checkup.

Only one I've noticed is on the passeger front door, hear it when I'm on really rough roads.....slight rattle.

The only annoying noise I am hearing is the driver seat squeaks like an old worn out mattress when I hit bumps in the road really low in the seat bottom. If I rock back and forth I can duplicate easily. I am trying to hold out to my 10k service (will be in a few weeks) but I might be crazy by then. My 2007 MKV Jetta did the same but much less noticeable.

Oh yeah, mine was doing that as well, every time I pushed the clutch in it would squeak, it was the vinyl rubbing against the plastic housing(I think, front lower left corner)....in any event, that lasted about 2 weeks and now it is quiet as a mouse. Guess I outlasted that one. Hey, I was driving my Nissan this week and that thing is a rattle trap

VW has recognized the problem with rattles and vibrations that they generated an Interest Item as so many owners of the 2012 Passat are complaining. Best approach notify the dealer, if noise is loud recorded on your cell phone and let the service guru listen. No joke as I had to drive for a while with a mechanic to confirm my concern.

Just a quick update....went to the dealer for a few items including the rattles. Well Im sad to say I still have rattles and not only didnt they fix the existing ones but theres a really loud new one in my drivers door. Almost to the point of getting into the panels myself but dont wanna void any warranty.
So to recap theres a rattle on the small full length trim peice on the dash, one on the front passenger side door down by the sill, one the the cup holder area, one in the back some where which usually goes away after the cars interior get warm and finally a new one in the driver door by the door lock and mirror controls.

"German engineered and American built" souldnt mean rattles over ever bump or rough road.

Really really disappoint in the interior rattles.....at least the car has sooooo much interior road noise it some what drowns out the rattles. lol

I thought I'd have to live with a rattle in the front passenger side that was annoying as heck on my work commute. It turned out the wife had put a pack of tic-tacs in her side door pocket next to her tube of moisturizing cream. Problem solved.

Within about 25 miles of purchase I have a pretty gnarly rattle coming from the front passenger door. Quite loud and annoying. When I pull on the handle while driving it stops it. I am hoping this is fixable.. my GLI had no rattles so I'm not supper pleased. Need to contact the dealer as the car seems to have an alignment issue from the factory as well.

@B7Passat: I've got an app't on 2/20 to address a few concerns, including rattles. I'll report back when complete. I'll be raising holy hell if I have more rattles after my visit.

Gheeze, sorry to hear about all the rattles. Mine is solid. Every now and then, certain songs turned up vibrates the sunroof cover, but other than then that mine is quite. You need to find a dealer that will drive it, pin point the problem and screw it tighter.

You should not have rattles at all, and they should be fixing it.

Thanks...mine was pretty solid at first but has progressively gotten worse.......I have another appt. and fingers crossed they can quite this car down.

I called today to schedule an appointment with the dealer to fix these rattles. The biggest and most annoying rattle is coming from the front passenger door. It seems to be the lower half of the door - when I push on it a little it seems to stop. There also is another rattle coming from the speaker area in the front passegner door. This thing rattles like crazy, especially when it is cold. It even rattles like a blown speaker (but its not) when I do a voice dial and the VW lady speaks to me. It drives me nuts!

So anyways when I called and was speaking to the service guy this morning, he said that there is a couple bulletins from VW about the front passenger door rattling. I'll ask more about it when I take it in to get 'em fixed this tuesday, February 14th. I'll keep you posted!

Regardless, I thoroughly am enjoying my Passat, especially the 50% savings in gas from my 5th generation Maxima. Looking forward to going on a golfing road trip in it this spring with a few of my buddies.

Mine started doing that early last week. I couldn't take it. Made an appointment for last Friday. They have ordered a new seat frame. That coupled with some trim on the rear seat popping off just adds to the list. They are ordering a whole new rear seat back to take care of that.

I've had more trouble with this Passat in two months than I've had with my 05 Jetta since I bought it. (And I still have it)

Regardless I still love the car and none of these are major issues just annoyances...So far..

The best approach is to ask the service person to review the open campaigns/recalls/or latest inputs from the VW Care customer service. Ask for a VW loaner and leave the vehicle at the dealer, call VW Care and let them know, the regional manager will call you.

Mine is going in for the 10k service and the same squeaky seat issue. Drives me crazy every time I take off or hit a bump. First had the door rattles and now the seat. I had expected better build quality for a $34k car.

mine is going in for the 90 day on friday to have the rattles fixed! 400 miles on the odo.. 150 at delivery 1/13. Hoping for an easy fix!
