My first tour starts tomorrow, Help me make it through the first stroke

Still in Mobile, Al. Picked up a ragtag crew Brent a 20 something outta college and Ralph a bearded Shakespeare actor. We are planning to run as a team across the dreaded long stretch of TX. I will be through into LA tomorrow.

Quick story from today:
We had a classic close call today. Traveling through an intersection at 25mph, Polo in my back pack, in the "neighbors hood", and guy turning left. Man i'm glad I have some strong legs. The guy slammed on the brakes, I watched out the corner of my eye to see which way the car would slide - kicked my foot off of his bumper and peddle with the other leg. It was an epic moment to capture for video. All the public was screaming 'Did you see that **** he did". We get to the next light, car rolls up and says something about "i bet that made your heart ...." stopped mid sentence. "Wait, you have a dog in your pak?" I laughed and drank my Gatorade.

We are in New Orleans, Mardi Gras parade cancelled due to weather.

Today: Woke up in Buccaneer State Park to high winds and rain. My tent was blown up after repeated gust, all despite the long stakes. Ended up taking the break in rain and wind to ride out of the park. Made a wrong turn right, ended up at Silver Slipper Casino. We had to hang there as the weather broke loose again. Later found out from the casino staff the entire Gulf coast is under tornado warn til the evening.


A couple of hours passed, seemed the weather was good. Started out on Lake Shore Dr, and ran into brightly colored thick clouds. Darn it!!! We road as far as possible trying to find cover. Luckily, a fellow stopped in his pickup truck. Gave us a ride all the way to New Orleans. One million trillion thank yous to that fellow. He pointed out the hurricane destruction and reconstruction. Funny, he spoke of how the coast use to be inhabited by the average Joe, but now since new house requirements, only the well to-do are build out here. Go figure. We, also, went through one of the new levees. The gate on this thing was thick.

****No pictures, we were riding through severe down pour, flooding, and winds.


Now we have to figure out what to do for the day. I had not originally planned to come here. Before, It was pass through Baton Rouge. The truck driver was going to New Orleans, so that is were we ended up. I am feeling a little sick, too. At the least, this nothing like the start of my trek across America.
