Trunk Hinge Cover

I went to VW of Richmond today and asked them about the hinge cover. I wanted to know if the left side could be bought and put on the right side. We got down to it and it would seem as though the part is interchangeable even though the clips would be opposite since it is made for the left side only. It is called a wire harness cover, not a hinge cover, because it covers the sole wire harness on the left side. The problem is the part has a number but is not available to be ordered. Apparently it is an assembly line only part as of right now and there is no intention of making the part available. So I said to the parts adviser, what happens if someone gets rear-ended and the part needs to be replaced because the trunk is mangled, and he said that is a good question I guess they are not going to be able to get that part when it comes time to do the repair. Can anyone chime in on this? I have the part number in the car I will post it when I go out to it again and grab it. But I would really like that part it is only $29.00 and will make the trunk looks so much nicer.

I asked the dealer about this and they are not in stock yet. They said that the part should be in around the end of the first quarter. Have you asked your dealer if they have one in stock?

You know it haha; The part number for the wire harness holder is 561-971-821-82V The price is $29.10 There are clips on the back of the cover that hold the cover in place once it is slid tightly over the metal hinge. The clips are not very flexible as they stress easy and are made out of plastic. They clip from the attached left side of the rear of the cover, to the small groove opening on the right side of the rear of the cover. This makes it so the clips go in to the part of the hinge that is more accessible on the outer part near the cargo area versus the other side near the side of the body. It is a piece only made for the left side since the wires are only on the left side. Having said all this I believe it will still fit universally on the right side. I just wish this part was available somehow that is all I want!

So what now? Is there an in somewhere at VW that can send the part? Maybe I should write to Chatanooga with an enclosed check for $29.10 haha, see if they can send me one off the assembly line

Maybe someone could make a killing off selling the part on eBay like that little plastic disc used to cover the antenna mount on the B5. That darn like piece of plastic sold for $15/each.

Haha thanks for the explanation! This is the only piece though I'm not going to have her get me anything else, its just that this piece is unattainable so luckily she works for VWofA and pulled some strings to get it for me

I think the trunk hinge is now open for sale from the dealers parts department.
They told me that it's in stock and can be order from VW part warehouse.
I just ordered mine trunk hinge cover from a local dealer here in Dallas, TX.
It was $26.. It will arrive in 2 days.

Ok guys.. I got a call minutes ago from the VW dealer that I ordered that part and they told me that when they sent my order to the VW warehouse stocking system they got a call from VW telling them that part is not ready for sale yet.. It will be but they don't no when it will be.
Dealer told the will leave my order open and as soon they got the ok to be ordered they will call me when they get it.

However, at the beginning I was a little exceptical when the guy at part department desk told me that it was able to order the hinge.. Well now we know it still no ope for sale yet...
I think today was not my luck day !' jejeje

Many favors went into this endeavor but it is complete nonetheless, and it would seem VW is truly holding out on the sale of this piece so everyone else will just have to continue to wait. I though for sure that this would be for sale by now! Oh well

Unless someone else has gottewn one by now, I may be the second to get one. My shops buy $50k of VW parts monthly through the VW wholesale channels. I may be able to come up with one. We'll see.
