Got my trunk hooks into today. Here is a quick write up on how they were installed.

Here are the parts you'll get from ECS. The consist of the hook, 2 little mounting clips, and 2 screws.
Start by locating the correct spot for the trunk hook. On my 2012 GLI, it is on the left side about 10 inches from the edge of the opening. It will be different from the other "holes" as it has cut outs for the mounting clips and screws.
Once you've found the spot, you might find that it is difficult to insert the clip with the nipple facing up. You can see here that I can't quite force it in this way.
To remedy this, insert a screw driver into the clip and twist it to spread the clip out a bit.
With the clip seperated a bit, you should be able to get it in with the nipple facing up. Once the clip is in place, repeat on the other side. I have been told that it is important to do it with the nipple facing up for load bearing purposes.
Insert one of the screws into one of the holes on the hook. Holding it with your finger, guide it into the nipple of the mounting clip. Tighten it just enough so that it can support the hook on its own. Do not tighten it all the way. Repeat this step for the other side.
Once you've got the screws slightly in, alternate from side to side, making a few turns on each side before switching to the other side. This will prevent the mounting clip from dislodging (as it likes to wobble as you rotate the torx bit). I suspect if you try and do one side all at once, you'll have a tough time getting the 2nd screw in.
That's it.
Now your grocery bags will no longer roll around in your trunk.
One word of warning: I mistakenly thought that all the holes were the correct size for mounting the hook when I ordered them, so I ordered 3. However, once I got them, I realized there was only one spot for it. I'm going to try and mount another one later this weekend, but it will require some drilling. Keep this in mind.
