Can I upload my own avatar? Or is that a negative?

No - we don't allow custom avatars here, or images in signatures. This is so the forum stays clean and easy to read, and pages don't get cluttered up with animated gifs and other stuff like that.

I understand... I've been an active member of PBNation.com... Their policy is no images in signatures (For obvious Reasons) but they do allow 80x80 (100x100 for supporting members) Custom Avatars . I think it's something you guys should look into since a persons unique avatar is what represents them in the online world. Some people spen hours trying to find the one for them

Well at least can you give us a better variety of Avatars? Why all these Car manufacturer Avatars? This is a VW Forum. Can we at least see some more VW Avatars? Such as MKIV or maybe VR6, ya know? You guys have a sorry choice of avatars in my opinion. And lots of doubles.

We also have forums for other manufacturers, as well as a general all-cars forum that share our user database, so that's why we have a lot of different avatars.

I'm sorry that you don't like the choices that we have available, but in our view having a clean, easy to read forum is better than having one with a ton of blinking gifs and stuff all over the place.

I'm only seeing a few Avatars available -- are some hidden somehow? I had a BMW avatar and accidentally removed it, and noticed it's no longer available...

That or maybe you would rather save your storage space for something else? Either way, avatars are must have feature on message boards. You can atleast add more to the selection...

No, it's specifically because we don't want the easy readability and clean look of the forums to be cluttered up by a bunch of blinking gifs and other craziness.

There are more choices available to you if you log in to the forums through one of our other portals:

    forums.thecarlounge.net
    forums.fourtitude.com
    forums.mwerks.com
    forums.kilometermagazine.com

If you log in to one of those one time and set your avatar, it will persist when you come back and log in through Vortex or wherever you usually log in from.

Can y'all please clean up this thread. I was getting a hint that this forum was professional, no blinking avatar and what not but that's not what I am seeing here.

Sorry, Tim, but that doesn't work.

Also, you can allow NON-animated only avatars, if your purported reasons for banning all custom avatars is true. Of course you have to have some rules, but a universal ban just because the webweenie is too lazy to set up the parameters properly just doesn't fly.

Please don't get insulting to the people who run this site. I clearly explained the reason for our policy above, and it has nothing to do with laziness or with being a weenie. We feel that maintaining a clean, non-cluttered, easy to read format is more valuable than allowing people to post whatever pictures they want as their avatars.

I'm sorry if this upsets some people, but it is our policy, and is not going to change.
