This is Alvin from Borla Performance Industries, Inc. in California. Borla Performance is committed to the VW community and we're very excited to share this video-clip of our new cat-back exhaust for the mkVI Jetta GLI! This cat-back is a direct-fit bolt-on using the factory hangars. There is no welding and removal/ installation takes about an hour.
Our GLI project goals were to remain emissions compliant, make great sound, improve exhaust gas flow, reduce weight, and upgrade the appearance. We were able to achieve an aggressive, low-frequency exhaust note under acceleration while keeping (almost stock) exhaust note while cruising. There's NO cabin resonance (aka drone) for those long drives and commutes. Performance gain is 10-12 hp/tq and weight savings is about 40% less (19 lbs vs. stock @ 31 lbs).
We were able to improve flow using larger 2.50" pipe and reduce weight incorporating a single (stock system has 2-mufflers) straight-through-design muffler. We positioned this muffler forward to reduce weight behind the rear-axle.
As for upgrading the appearance, we considered a dual-split design with 2-tips on each side of the lower rear valence. We found this was not a realistic goal as the tow-hook anchor and shielded fuel mechanicals interfered. Additionally, our past experience tells us cutting a valence is a modification most owners weren't willing make. We decided a clean upgrade to the factory look was best. Our staggered, polished (not chrome plated), and larger-than-stock dual-tip design looks aggressive and compliments the louder-than-stock exhaust note. Our material is the best in an austenitic grade stainless steel and its backed with our limited-million-mile-warranty.
For those looking to be one of the first to sport this exciting product, we're completing a small pilot build at our R&D facility in California. These pilot-build samples reflect production design, materials and warranty. These will be available for purchase at our website announcement and new product release. Please check our website in about 2-weeks for this official new product release: www.Borla.com
Timing estimate for full-production is about 10-12 weeks at our manufacturing facility in Johnson City, TN.
Thanks for your interest in Borla!

Very nice sound. Clean and powerful note that compliments the already awesome interior sound.
I'll look Ito purchasing once pricing comes out and I budget it out. I'm not a kid with no worries anymore so these things need to be working into the financial plan lol. And the wife lol.

Any idea on price point? i might be interested in RD products for sale?

I like this a lot. Seems like an all business system, very oem, with a hint of aggression. I would also be interested in a price point, and I too have to work it into the budget. But I like it a lot.

I think Borla just won my money! Very nice sound (and lack of sound where it counts).

I'd like to know the noise level of these if possible. Very interested.

I think you'll be fine with this. Do you know the microphone placement? Is this track microphone placed uphill where the engine is loaded?
I drive MRLS-Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and I've spoken to owners with factory vehicles getting black-flagged on a 92 dBA open track day. Keep in mind that adding an intake or catless down-pipe would raise the SPL...

They close half the track, and have you do a few half laps at speed. There is an "unofficial" track owned microphone about 30ft in the air on the back stretch that monitors your sound level. If you are below 96dbA, they issue you a sticker and you don't have to get tested again. If you are above 96dbA, you can't run at all. Most OEM exhausts will all be under, unless its a super high end Porsche or a Lambo or something of that nature.
There is an "official" county owned microphone that is set at 100dbA. If it gets triggered 3 times in one day, then the track has to close and no one can run again for the day. The track microphone is set lower as sort of a safety.

I don't think you would get you black flagged at your track. I have a mk4 R32 with Borla cat-back that measures higher SPL than our new Jetta GLI exhaust. I don't have any issues passing sound at a 92dBA track day at MRLS.
I've sat near the mic booth at MRLS (positioned ~50 ft off-track up-the-hill from turn 5). I've witnessed cars black flagged on a 92dBA limit open track day at MRLS. These cars are fairly loud in the pits and even louder on-track. This exhaust would have no problem passing 92dBA at MRLS.
FYI, videos may give you an idea of the what an exhaust sounds like but it's difficult to make judgement on the loudness or SPL.

I don't think the 2.5L uses the same pipe diameter as the 2.0T. The exhaust paths may be similar but even if it fit the sound might not be right with this single round muffler.
As for pricing, we plan to have this new product release within 1-week on our website, part number 140472.

Alvin,
You need to keep us in the loop...
I order my exhaust thinking one from the initial production run is still available because nothing has been communicated otherwise and then I get an email saying it's out of stock...
Very disappointed. Now who knows how long before I get it.![]()

WOW!... just ordered my 2013 and this Borla is on top of my 1st upgrade list!
Any issues with less back pressure from your system? What is the back pressure change?

I LOVE this exhaust! The sound it makes is!!
I sometimes drive without the radio just to hear it!
It's also not so bad when I drive by and someone breaks their neck with a "What the f&!k is THAT?!?" look on their face either.![]()
