Bought the car in December of 2006 with 35k on the clock.
Started to hang out too much with the great Rdefined people, so first thing I wanted to do was TRACK DAY, which I started at Fastivus 2007.

The following year was little basic mods; flapper, Pss9 and Unibrace … not even a flash.
Almost 3 years ago I had a Turbo VF sgt1 installed by the pros directly at VF.

Time goes by and lots of heat during Track days, so little change was made since the first day: Added Oil cooler, moved Battery to the back ( more air flow in the engine bay ), been fortunate to get Finn's custom Autospeed Exhaust ( with Flapper and Res deleted ) which drove all the way from SF.

Car has been very good and enjoyable. Turbo kit runs flawlessly and smoothly, specially after exhaust.

Getting a FMIC or SMIC been haunting me for a little while now, after looking a lot of project and different 3.2 v6 configuration. Then one day; I got an Idea !
Working on cars is a little hobby of mine and it helps me to get away from the computer, so I got started.

When I was ordering all the parts and talking about it, pretty much everyone gave me the "Interesting...!?" comment.

Main 3 parts were: 3.2 V6 Porsche Cayenne Intake Manifold, Engine Cover and C2 FMIC.

On thing I really wanted to accomplish was to relocate the cooling bottle on the other side, there were too many hoses going over the Turbo for my taste. From there, I designed piping with cardboard tubing ( which probably took less time to the guys to do it in Stainless, then it took me ) and rerouted the cooling hoses. Relocated the oil cooler from the front to the side and added a fan for which I build an aluminum frame ( wish I had better tools, but anyway ).

Very happy with the result, the Car runs great and cool.

As my car is still running Stg 1 tune and springs, I want to upgrade to the Stg 2 component ( not looking to overkill it, just to get the boost around 15 psi ). I visited VF and they were very impressed with my project. Nick drove with me and introduced me Vik at Eurosport, which is taking over my "st2" upgrade. My new goodies are waiting patiently in a box to be installed in a month or so.

Engine bay aesthetic is currently a work in progress using the OEM Porsche Plastic Engine cover. Also need to make a smaller Windshield water bottle.

    From Day 1 :

To what the hell was I thinking !

Looks just like a stock R ... with an awesome sound !

    Thanks too:

Thank you all for the nice comments, projects took me about 6 months with little times between work and the kid.

ThatVdub; Here a Pic of my final oil cooler with fan and I insulated the fitting from the bumper just in case.

Very nice. I love how've you covered your bases. I think the insulation was a pretty good idea.

Nice work. How hard is it to fit the Cayenne manifold and valve cover? Is it a straight swap? The throttle body looks like its mounted on the left as opposed to ours on the right. Any performance gains over the standard manifold?

It is pretty much straight forward; need to grind about 1/16" on the left of the Alternator bracket so I did 1/8 to be sure to clear any vibration. I needed to machine a spacer/adapter to use the R Throttle body ( good to have a friend with machine shop ). On the Cayenne the throttle interior size is bigger, but overall the size is much smaller, as it doesn't have cooling that recirculate in it, I didn't bother to look for compatibility with R electrical.

Manifold is bigger and seems much stronger. I don't think there is much gain compare to the Oem. Manifold still have the "drive unit actuator" like the R32.

    Here is the adapter:

Well the gain will be when I'll be replacing some component and the tune with the stg 2 in the next month or so. As of right now, the car run much cooler which is very good, but I have lost about 1.5 to 2 psi with all the piping, which mean I lost some power. Once the tune is done, I should be gaining about 80 hp being conservative.

To compare both Intake it would need before and after dyno without Intercooler. I still have my previous dyno sheet when VF installed the kit, I guess I could get a dyno and by passing the intercooler just to see. But I am not feeling the cost.

Where does the oil breather from the head end up on the Cayenne?

I thought this might work - just not on a RHD car because brake booster is right where the throttle is!

Cayennes have a different water pump too I believe.

Interesting about the larger throttle body and no coolant pipes on it.

I just look back to my sheets, All I got was mine with "Stock exhaust", which I noticed a gain of 1.5 psi with Autospeed exhaust. But I got someone else with Hi-flow cats and exhaust sheet couple of days before my install, should be closer to what I was running. If Eurosport are as curious they will be more then welcome to bypass the intercooler just to see.

I just received 2 vented wheel housing from 1stPartVw ...

This is awesome! I like the out of the box approach!

Is there any real difference to the intake manifold in the terms of runner size or length?

You said it still retains the change over valve correct?

runner size is not an easy question, I got a vague understanding as Long Runner with small plenum would gain more TQ in the Low RPM, Short Runner would gain more in the high RPM. There is much more involve in the process with all the component together.

In the coming month, dyno will be answering that. I went outside the box ( keeping everything connected and bolt-on with OEM parts), but I am still crossing my fingers that I made the right decision when I'll be pushing for more boost.

Finally had time to complete the Engine cover.

I tried few option to work the wiring harness, it is not what I wanted. But it is not so bad. I should've put it under the Intake but it is too late for that now... ....

At first I wanted to get rid of the Porshe text, but with my bodywork skills it would've been a disaster. At second tough I kinda like it.

    ^^^^^^

Also in for any information on the Cayenne intake mani. Even if there is no gain, it looks cool as hell! I thought about the 3.6 VR6 manifold, but forgot about the Cayenne. Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!!!
