It's really hard to explain through text. Basically you have a pole sticking up, the stock shifter puts a pin through the hole of the shifter (which runs horizontally) and pulls up, which allows the changing of gears. On an R36 this pole's hole runs vertically (look at the button placement on the shifter). I simply added a modified paperclip, but it didn't last too long, it failed after a week. I then simply added a zip tie to the pole and it worked for as long as I had it installed in the car. I know this is very vague, but it is very hard to describe with words. I have absolutely no problem explaining how to modify it over the phone should you get one.

I attached a zip tie to that black piece and then hooked it up to the small post that comes out of the button on the R36 shift knob. It took a while to brainstorm on making it work.
