I considered that during my build in '07 but they were too hard to find/expensive back then. Now I just wish I got one so I could install the awesome reverse camera that pops out of the bottom of them!

Always wondered about the jambs first. When I did mine I looked at all options and shooting the body as one and the external pieces separate was less taping.

Even the fancy 3M stuff made me feel like there would be a line to blend. Details?

This being a complete color change I yanked the doors, fenders, hood and hatch...then painted the jambs, then trimmed the parts I pulled off. Now I am going to put it all back together and paint the outside all together. With candy paint this is a must because any variation in spray will change the color and then it would appear nothing matches...so the whole outside has to be done in one shot. Candy can not be blended or overlapped. Thus spraying it is different than regular paint. With traditional paint you can paint it all separate. I'm still 50/50 on having the glass pulled....I have the special lift tape for the seals but I'm not sure. The other part that sucks is that when laying down the paint if there are any runs or flaws the whole thing has to be sanded back down and start over. I'm having to do one of the inner doors over already. All I can say is rock chips will suck hope that helps some...feel free to shoot me a pm or post up any other paint questions.

Settled on a plan for the wheels as well. The centers will be ivory pearl white, gold spike bolts and my buddy is machining custom center caps for me. I was going to have him make spikes and have them done to match the bolts but I think its a bit ott. So they will be 1 1/2 inch cones painted the same white as the centers.

    Oh I've been there....

The glass is a tough one. Knowing what I know now I would have found a great glass guy and had them pulled. I was told they are not re-useable which is mildly true. If you can remove them without damaging the seals then you can clean them up and reinstall. I just pulled mine and chucked them. Sadly I had a company install glass two days before I moved and they did a hack job on it, really not happy. I could never fix it because of the move. You have a shop? Pull the glass.

Good point about the candy, you are a ballsy man for that. I will never paint a car I can't blend/paint individual. My whole front end needs a spray due to a replaced fenders and me redoing the bumper etc. I can paint my parts and bolt them right back up, go brown

Car looks awesome though! I think I have already asked this but with you be mounting the reverse cam?

When I started this project I planned the same mod however in 2007 finding hatches to cut up was too hard/expensive to be worth it. Plus there was no camera... NOW I would spend whatever it takes just for that cam as it is coooool as hell.

Thanks all...for right now I'm still working on getting the latch to only work when the car is unlocked. The headunit I have for her has backup camera inputs so more than likely that will be in the future. Right now I just can't wait to drive her again!
