What brand is this kit? Packaging doesn't look familiar at all.

I'm guessing it's curbside with no engine? Is it fairly detailed otherwise?

i think the brand is Pokal Race...Japanese seems to be primary language on packaging.it is a Italy/lanti scheme. and yes looks only lower engine is visible..otherwise very good detail.

In snooping around the interwebs, Pokal Race appears to be a race series created for the Golf.

There are a few "Pokal Race" Golf model kits out there. The most common appears to be a Votex branded Golf.




The parts and colouring looks like your kit.

Fujimi did a Pokal Race Mk2 in the livery you have (Italvolanti), but your kit doesn't appear to have the Fujimi logos on the box cover.





Would you take $20 for it? $30 including shipping?

I just recently sold both of those kits... and I can verify that they are pretty tough to find. I had mine for several years...

You can get the box set on ebay, unfortunately the entire series has not been dubbed in english, only about 13 episodes.
