    I always stream with Bluetooth, and the only time I don't, I'm charging phone. You can still stream
    Bluetooth while it's plugged into MDI, you just have switch it back.

    I resorted to having a separate charger for my phone. Seems silly when you have the MDI but we all know that cord is too small to send a quick sext from a red light without having to unplug it

    I found that the cord is just long enough to take pictures of what is necessary while I am attempting to sext.

    How you all doing, im wondering if a OEM rear view cam would work with this Head unit, any body have any input? i hear there is supposed to be a connector on the back (26pin connector??) any body tried? or have seen the back of the unit?
    thanks in advance

    also is there any way of coding the unit via VAG-COM to make the map view to stay on instead of going back to the navigation menu after you turn the car off and back on?

    Yes, the RNS-315 has the connection you need for the RVC, and it will work. A number of people have already done this.

    I'm not aware of any coding that will make the map screen the default screen for the RNS-315 when turning the car on.

    Thanks, What i mean is , just some kind of "memory" if I had the map view for it to STAY there even I turn the car off and on. Now if Im on the map screen, I just turn the car off, turn it back on and goes straight to the navi menu instead of the map screen (where I left it), why?

    If you're bruetooth streaming you for sure can control it via the iPod app.

    If you have it hooked up to the MDI, the default is that you won't be able to control it via the iPod app. You might be able to get around this though.

    If you're using an iPod touch or an iPhone, while you have it plugged in to the MDI, tap the center button twice, to bring up the background apps, and slide the bottom dock to the right.
    You should see the orientation lock button, the rewind play and skip buttons, and the AirPlay button (looks like a TV set somewhat). Tap it and select any of the other options there and experiment. Like BT stream, which would allow you to charge the phone while using it to control the muzak. Tiny cable though so that's that.

    I have a separate separate car charger with a longer cable that allows the passengers to choose music while the phone charges. It's small and black so it sits flush and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. It was cheap and got it at wallyworld if anyone wants to try that

    OR you can just jailbreak your iPod toch and download the app to disable the splash screen on the iPod while connected to the midi cable and you have full access to do whatever you want with your device...

    Is anybody using SD memory cards in their rns 315 for music storage? If so what kind? Any brand/speed works? And max capacity the head unit would accept is 16gb correct? MY 2011

    Thanks

    I'm using a Sandisk 8GB stick ... max capacity is 32GBs for the unit I believe... just figure the faster the flash the faster the unit to read them but they come at a price.

    Class 10 SD cards allow for faster transfer rates and better quality/clarity.

    Then your phone runs like poo.

    I never have a problem with bluetooth. Just have the iphone 4 and it is always in my pocket. The large screen on the 510 would be nice, but I hardly ever use the nav. Most of the time Im on the gas so a bigger screen isnt on top of my list.

    Faster transfer rates sure, but better clarity? It's a digital signal, 0's and 1's. The rating of the card should make no difference in quality/clarity unless it's dropping a bunch of bits, which would make it close to useless for anything, as you couldn't use it to store files without them getting corrupted...

    In any case, I don't think the extra speed matters for MP3s, the data transfer rate is low enough (think about it, about 1MB/minute?), that going from 20MB/s to 30MB/s won't really do anything.

    EDIT: So it's a digital signal that sends the data to the processor and into the speakers? Didn't know that... Well, I'd like to test the theory anyway, but all I have are Class 10 because of my camera.

    Well, depending on how the RNS-315 reads the SD card. Would you happen to know?

    Class 10 cards are best used in videography because they have the ability to transfer data quickly without it being "delayed" or "choppy" as I'm sure you already know. I'm just using that logic as it applies to quick transfer rates.

    Ok so to resume the SD memory card answer, ANY SD(even SDHC) cards (any brand) will be reconginzed by the RNS-315 as long as its 32GB or less, at any speed? Correct?

    and Speed of the card will not make any difference in performance when talking about listeing to MP3 Music on this RMS-315? Correct?

    ALSO is there a way to be certain the max capacity is 32GB and not 16GB? actual manufactures specs maybe? anybody has a link for that?

    I only ran the apps that I had before I hacked it. Gave it about a month and restored my phone. I would be playing itunes and go to look at a txt and it would freeze. Stop playing the song and most of the time I would have to restart my phone. Thats why I use apple products because I dont have to deal with phones or computers freezing up on me.

    So...my R is on the boat still and my newest car currently is my '03 New Beetle Convertible 1.8T which did not come with an iPod connector (although it has a full custom installation with double DIN Alpine screen molded in, but I'm getting off topic). Does the new R come with an iPod connector as can you control it with the steering wheel controls? My Dad's mkvi TDI SportWagen didn't come with an iPod adaptor so I had to buy one.

    it's 50/50 if you get a cable that supports tagging songs you like and transferring those back to the ipod/phone. One type does and one does not.

    and Speed of the card will not make any difference in performance when talking about listeing to MP3 Music on this RMS-315? Correct?

    ALSO is there a way to be certain the max capacity is 32GB and not 16GB? actual manufactures specs maybe? anybody has a link for that?
    No link, but the "RNS 310, RNS 315 Navigation system US edition" supplement to the owner's manual states on page 20:

    ====================================
    SD and MMC memory cards in FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32 file system up to a maximum of 2 GB (Gigabyte) and SDHC memory cards up to a maximum 32 GB.
    ====================================

    No mention of speeds, brands, etc. Haven't tried it myself yet, though.
