I have a 32 GB SD card in my car. I have no idea what class it is (it was~ $28) I have hundreds, maybe a thousand songs on it with tons of free space. It works perfect. No cords. No plugs. No fuss.

Your car will come with an adaptor in the center console that plugs into the charger/data side of your iPod. The only question is whether the adapter that comes with your car will support song tagging or not. My car, for example, did not, so I ordered one because I like having the ability to tag songs for downloading later.

THANK YOU!!!! I wonder why my dad's car didn't come with one, not even a jack for the charger side. It came with a jack for the earphone jack. I'm a little disappointed that that storage bin doesn't have a lock. My MkIII and my New Beetle Convertible have a lock.
P.S. I am buying a Rising blue 4dr, too!

the canadian Rs come with the RNS 510 already, i've gotta say i'm impressed with it, i've been considerign assign two 12" woffers to the dynaudio system but was lookign to see if there is a way otehr then tapping off the rear speakers or buying a harness that does it and adds the RCA jacks

Has this been established already?
I KNOW it's got that speed-sensitive volume feature because the volume goes up and down along with my soundaktor
My question is, is there a way to switch it on/off or change the rate like there was in the regular non-touch screen HUs?

Anyone know if you can set the RNS315 to stay on when the ignition is off until you open the door? My MKV was set this way. I thought I saw a thread in the MK6 GTI forum about this and the 510 but couldn't find it

Is there a way to make the NAV give you directions LESS frequently? Find it very annoying driving on the highway and it telling me every other minute to "stay on the the highway" or "keep right" when the highway just gently veers right or something.
If the above isnt possible can you make it not turn down the volume of the song while its talking over it?
-thanks for any suggestions

Is there a lead for phones/devices other than iPod/iPhone? I've got a Droid. I use Bluetooth and could just use a 12v charger but it would be nice to use the OEM lead under the arm rest. Just curious.

Yeah, it's on the driver gear site. If you order from keffer vw parts there's a little discount.

So then you will not be using an iPod/iPhone to play musak, right? If you are, you don't need to worry about converting. If you're using an SD card, and need to convert the song, create the playlist you want with the songs that are to go on the SD card, have iTunes arrange the order by file type, select all the AACs and right click, select Convert to MP3. Then transfer the converted MP3s to your card. This should work in both your Macs and Windows.
That's the easiest way to go about it as it doesn't require a third party app

Ok I reread all the posts here....I have a question that I can't find in the manual...I started using my ipod in the car the other day, today it died, I would have thought the way the ipod was plugged in that it would charge it. Is the ipod suppose to charge or no?
#94
It's a 5V charge I think, yes.
I'd look into the iPod, if your other iPod/iPhone is also not charging, I'd get the dealer to look into it/replace the cable.
Now I've had the issue of my iPod freezing/dying/having to restart after playing dead after being plugged into it after a while. Only happens to my iPod classic. So I blamed it on it being old

you may be right on it just dieing after awhile, or should I say shut down. I did plug it in with the wall charger in the house and it still had nothing after a few minutes, so I remembered a trick I was told about awhile back. hold the center button and the menu button for about 10 seconds, it restarted and it did have a full charge. it would not have had a full charge for the few minutes it was plugged into the wall.
Thanks for the quick reply though...

No prob.
Yup same thing happens with my iPod. Used to happen with the old Pioneer HU I had in my MkV as well, so it's safe to chalk it up to the iPod.
Shouldn't happen too often, but if you also notices it doesn't charge any other iPhone/iPod then I'd look into the cable or MDI setup.

BTW for those of you interested to know, the RNS-315 does play ACC files (.m4a) as well as protected content, i tried it and works, don't need to convert to MP3 files just a FYI

I just picked up a new 2012 Black 4 dr Nav/Sunroof.
While streaming Bluetooth audio via iphone 4, is there any way to browse through the music directory? The funstion buttons on the screen are greyed out so I'm not sure this can be done the same as when the iphone is plugged in and I'm using MDI.

curious to hear the answer on this. My experience is no and it drives me nuts. I basically get a random sample of my music unless I want to go in and select on the phone. I need to spend some time actually working through the whole phone/mdi/bluetooth interface, but it is less than intuitive for sure.
#101
The answer is no. You're stuck using the iPhone. Alternatively, you can tell Siri what you wanna listen to. It's the fastest way to play a specific track or artist or play list; though it's not a way to browse.

I may have missed it above, but what iPod are you using? Its a bit wierd, but some of the newer iPods do not charge while plugged into the car. I had a Gen 1 4GB Nano I used int he car which worked flawlessly. Apple recalled them and sent me a new Nano (with the touch screen). It worked, but never would charge itself and eventually the battery died. I swapped it with my wife's Gen 2 Nano (color screen, round controller) and that one works just fine.

I recently upgrade from RCD-510 to RNS-315 for my 10 Golf TDI.
Did not do any coding, did not disconnect the orgional compass, simply plug and play.
Everything seems like to work fine expect:
1. Navigation info in the MFI stuck all the time, it does not sync very good.
2. My original Bluetooth won't connected the phone info. So I swapped with an 2011, i guess it's 9w7? but still no song info or control on Bluetooth audio
3. MDI only works like 1% of time, most of the time nothing happens. I got a iphone4 fyi
DO I need to do any coding to get the full function of this?

Everytime I plug my iPhone 4s in it autoplays the very first alphabetic song in my library which happens to "Ain't nothin to f&@# wit" by Wu Tang Clan. This is annoying if I'm listening to Sirius or a CD or something. Is this a setting in iTunes or something?

HAHAHAHAHAHA mine is "Ass 'n' titties" by DJ Assault... it's rather embarassing b/c it does it with the iPod... not the phone.
So anytime I have been listening to my phone and then get out of the car for gas, the store, whatever, I get back in and the car switches to the ipod on the first song until the phone connects.
There's been more than one awkward moment where I have to quickly switch to Sirius until the bluetooth picks up.![]()
