bit of a misnomer to call either of those an "auto".

I've been in this truck and I drove the same truck with a manual transmission last week and it's my current favorite truck. I didn't get much time to play with the new interior features but it seems well thought out and very user friendly.
Lately I have been testing "tip-in events". Just the tip-in. Just to see how it feels. Response time is typically on the order of 2-3 seconds. Sometimes the injection timing is a little off...

The volvo OTR rigs in general made a lot of the other truck manfacturers step their game up in terms of ergonomics and interior comfort. Sitting in a mid 90's volvo cab is similar to their cars from the same period, where if you had the equivalent Mack, IH etc., it was a throwback to the 70's - exposed screws, noisy, low quality.

I did a few addons to a friends VN last year he just picked up, the sleeper cab is roomier than some apartments i had back in the day.

these mercedes were everywhere when i was a kid, i believe when they bought frieghtliner they ceased bringing them here, although you still see them in africa and asia lumbering along

This thread makes me think about Interborough Rapid Transit's rolling stock...once were beautiful IMO in IRT's days of reign (or at least more attractive to the eyes, especially the wooden fleet, and the early lo-v fleet) and now just bare shiny metal as MTA is in control. *shrug*

I doubt it, the show trucks probably got put on low-boys and trailered up there.

That Western Star was part of the display at their booth. Im not sure if it was a show only truck or you can buy it like that.

That's the truck from Duel. I thought the accompanying car was a Dodge Dart, but wikipedia tells me that is was a Plymouth Valiant.

Pretty good movie, if you haven't seen it yet. It was Spielberg's first film...he did very well.

They're nice. We've got a quad-dump truck, considering a tractor to replace our aging lowboy tractor. Need to get some bugs worked out, though. That's okay for now, considering how new they are.

also interesting how much suspense he was able to build up with almost no talking the entire movie.

I think it's more interesting what he does with (almost) no music track to speak of. Spielberg was amazing with sound and dialogue in the beginning...just look what he and John Williams did with two notes in Jaws.

The CT660 is actually built in partnership with Navistar and the Caterpillar Truck Division. Unfortunately, neither are based in Aurora so I didn't get the pleasure of being involved in the CT660. I do get to be involved with the planing of the Excavator's though

If they let you operate the excavators then I think you get the more fun end of things...

I've chuckled with my colleagues about the NaviCat, it's funny that the company that pulled out of the on-highway engine market has started to build an on-highway chassis with another engine in it. I understand that Navistar has licensed/bought/shares some of the Cat engine technology but on the surface it still seems ironic. And who was on the marketing team that came up with CT660? What's next the CT680, CT700, and CT800? It's a neat looking truck and it will be interesting to see how drivers like them. I've had a chance to climb around one, sit inside, pop the hood, etc.

What you are showing might be a custom job, but if I found a W300 for sale I would buy it no questions asked and I would put many people in shallow graves to get a clean 4x4 W300.

I am pretty sure the fuel economy of the W300 wasn't bad, they had little 4 cyl detroit diesels in them. Think of it as a 70's F-350 with a diesel.
